Going into my 3rd ice season using the electric auger from Strikmaster. Gotta say I absolutely love the thing. It was built with a guy like me in mind. Who is a “Guy Like Me” you ask?

    – Older. (Not old, just older)

    – Replacing a 3HP Ten Inch back-breaking heavy auger.

    – Need to open holes in a perm shack without creating fumes.

    – Not the guy making swiss cheese out of a spot.

For me, this auger is perfect. I’m at the point in my ice fishing career where I have a pretty good idea where I’m going fishing. I’m the guy who will punch an average of 20 or less holes in a day or outing. Not too many search and destroy missions any more. I am often in a situation where I need to open a hole in a permanent shack or wheelhouse and don’t want to stink up the place. This auger is absolutely perfect in situations where you are setting up on a shallow water spot for that early morning or late afternoon/evening bite. It is just as quiet as a sharp hand auger. All you hear is the hum of the motor and the ice getting sliced away.

The business end of the auger is the same blade as the gas model. This is the “Lazer” blade design that has proved to be quick and reliable. The motor end is electric of course. After 2 full seasons, runs like the day I bought it. Still on the original battery and is just starting to show some wear. I plan to replace this battery this year. The battery is the “Vexilar” style of sealed gel battery and is mounted in the head of the unit. The Electra Lazer also comes with a set of “Jumpers” that you can run to any car/truck battery if needed. But I’ll tell ya, the built in battery is all I need 95% of the time. Many who see the unit in operation for the first time comment that they thought you need to bring a car or boat battery to run the thing. Mostly because the product photo shows the jumpers attached and assume they are needed! I have only used the jumpers once.

People who fish with me know I’m tuff on my gear. I can safely call this unit “Jordan Proof” after having the thing bounce around in the pickup bed and sled trailer. Not to mention several fall overs onto the cement garage floor over the summer. The unit is pretty simple. Not a lot can go wrong and have proved reliable and so far un breakable!

No gas and oil to mix and store. No gas fumes under the topper. No leaky gas caps. No summer storage. The unit never fails no matter how cold it gets.

If you have a chance, take a look at some other Owner Comments on the Cabelas web page. You will see I’m not alone in my love for this unit!

Any questions, I’d be happy to answer.

Bought the same unit this year and took it to Red Lake over the weekend. What a machine! No fumes in the new Ice Castle and it cuts through ice like butter. They are pretty much sold out around here (Grand Rapids).

could not be happier with mine no fumes,no gas and oil to mix,and will drill as many holes I need in a day with a full charge.

I won’t go back to gas either after using mine for the last 3 years.15+ holes on a single charge and every one of them right down to the handle bars on mille lacs in february.Throw the cig lighter charger on for a couple hours and do it again.Never needed the jumper cables yet.
