They work great in the bathtub if you can’t get out on the water. Turn out the lights and use the camera lights on low. Just be-careful of which way you point it as I learned this the hard way with my wife.

You my friend, are going to have the time of your life in the dark…without your girl friend!

But…I don’t want to over hype it. You will just have to wait ’till you get on the ice…then you let us know how it works in the dark.

Sounds like you’ve had “snow storm” camera’s in the past?

When will you be taking it out for the first time?

i have the 380 and i love it!!!! it has the same sony camera head as the big boys but without the nifty LCD screen. the light source is 2 blue LED lites on the camera that spook fish. i have yet to use it at nite and not scare fish away. it works best when you dont have to rely on the light of the LEDs. once the sun starts to set, you might as well pull it up and use your flasher for the nite. even so, its still one of the more fun toys i have for ice fishing. you will enjoy it!!!

and get a marcum camera compass if you havent already, its around $10 from any of the stores and goes a long way in helping you manage where your camera is aiming.

How well do these cameras work in less-than-clear water (during the day)???

    Thanks for the input!

Well, mud is mud. It really depends on what less than clear is.

If you go to YouTube and type in idacatguides in the search box…I have 5 or so videos from the Mississippi River. One from Dec 19th. That should give a person an idea of what can be seen.

But again, I don’t know what can see through a wall of mud.

    Thanks, I’ll check those out…

Specifically, I’m interested if anyone has used it with success on Lake of the Woods (NW angle), and if it would be worth taking with when we head up there next week.

    Thanks!!

Awesome videos, thanks for the heads up!!

Sounds like LOW clarity (sechi disk readings) are generally about 4-6 feet.. I would think those cameras might work ok under such conditions??? Worth a shot, I guess..

ive used mine on some pretty crappy lakes and its worked well. but as bk said, no matter how good of a camera you have, you cant see through mud.

id always bring it with me, but if it comes down to the camera over a flasher, then id have to leave it home.

bring it, they are fun to use. plus, they help to see what kind of structure is underneath your holes if nothing else.

I have used it on LOW with pretty good luck 2 to 3 feet of visibility down to 25 feet during the day, can see with it at night in the same depth saw a couple of perch and a eelpout didn’t seem to spook them at all.
