Well i got alot of money and gift cards for christmas and i am in the market for a flasher. Dont really know what one to get so i was hoping for some pointers to which to look into. Looking at both the vexilar fl-8 genz pack and the fl-18 genz pack. Both on sale at fleet farm now. Any recommendations on which brands or models will be a huge help.
    Thanks alot.

MARCUM LX-5… Hands down the best you will ever use.

I cant give you all the details on why ,since I am still learning the full use of mine but I am sure someone will chime in here and help you out more.

Dont really know the diffrence between the vex and the Marcum but have a vexilar FL-20 and if you were just pondering between the FL-8 and the FL-18 go with the 18, bottom zoom is well worth the money.

The thing that I like best about the LX5 is that you can zoom in on any 5ft section of the water column. So if your in 30ft of water and the fish are 10ft off bottom, you can zoom in right there. From my understanding with the vex. you can only do the bottom 5ft.

Having the bottom zoom on the FL-18 makes it well worth the money compared to the FL-8. As a Vex owner I would personally go with a Marcum LX-5 or-3 just for the fact of the 3/4″ of seperation between baits and fish. It really makes a big difference when it comes time to figure where your bait is and what fish you want it to go to

Good luck and either way you go you will surely enjoy your new purchase. Merry Christmas

Whatever you decide I’d make sure to get a flasher with zoom, but personally I’d look for one with adjustable zoom. I wouldn’t get the FL-8 because it doesn’t have a zoom feature. If your not on a budget go all out and get one of the best! Otherwise you’ll regret it later.

Owned the FL-8, FL-18, fish next to a FL-20, Get the LX-5 if you can, it is that much better. If thats to much then the VX-1 is equal to the FL-18 as far as features go.

If the Vexilar Fl-8 is in your price range-buy it.
It is a quality and reliable flasher.

If you have a-lot more money to spend then go bigger.

A $500.00 flasher wont attract fish-it comes down to location and presentation.

Great Point!! I still think when it comes down to fishing, it’s still the fisherman. I have fished both brands and I have an FL-20. Personal preferance. I would say that there is nothing wrong with an FL-8. If you can see your bait and see the fish, you’ll get fish. You’ll learn how to make them bite. As far as target seperation, I don’t know about all that. My Vexilar shows where the fish is and in general, I know if he’s on or not. I do like the bottom zoom, the fl-18 is a great unit. But the FL-8 does the same thing, helps catch fish, just like all flashers. Pick one up, you’ll be glad you did.

If you can swing it, go with the FL-18. If you find it on sale….even better.

I have been researching flashers for the since last ice season. I was able to purchase one this season. I went with the Marcum LX-5 because of the adjustable zoom and the 3/4″ separation. I got it this Tuesday, so I can’t say much more. I have never used a Vexilar, but the features of the LX-5 won out hands down.

    Merry Christmas!
