I have used both and now I’m going to buy a new auger tomorrow… I just sold my old Strikemaster Lazer Mag 10″ but, I was wondering about what you guys thought. I fish Walleye 80% of the time with the other 20% split between Pike and Pannies. Give me some feedback please…

Go with the 8” the 10” is a boot eater. I’ve never caught a fish that wouldent fit up a 8”hole. That dosent make any sense of course i wouldent catch a fish that wouldent fit up a 8” hole

This is true… I just wonder if the 10″ is an advantage for us BYOB party fisherman who have a hard time getting the eyes straight up an 8″. Yet, maybe it could be a disadvantage too (more wiggle room to knock the hook outta there mouths). I guess that’s my question?

11 pound eye came up our 8″ hole last year, I see no reason for a 10 unless in a permi or big lakers.

I run nine inch holes in the rentals to help from freeze up but when out fishing I run a 8″ to save space in the portable and drill faster/easier not to mention bigger holes 9-10″ are traps for kids big and little along with creating a TON of slush. Just about anything but a big laker will fit up a 8″ hole, that is why I have the 10″ bit at home for the Canadian trips that seldom gets used anymore.

Anybody use a 12″ auger? Talk about a boot eater ….it gets you all the way to the crotch We bought one about 20 years ago and while cutting the first 4 holes with it, I went down in 2 of them. We thought it would work good for pout fishing. We were wrong

You will be happy with a 8″. Good all around size.
