Mike, please post if you get any info as to why it froze up and since he ran it again, how is it doing?
    Thanks

I have a jiffy model 30 legend 50th Anniv. model and the sticker says 24:1 mixture on it and that is what I have been using for the past 8 years and have had no problems. The auger runs great! Never replaced a spark plug or had any maintenance done on it. I was also curious of the mixture and checked out their website and found it said 40:1 mixture. Mine works well as it is so I have not changed to the 40:1.

Even on the Amsoil website it says you can run 100:1 saber in 2 cycle engines that recommend 50:1 under normal conditions. For one most augers at least recommend 40:1 plus running a ice auger in extreme cold I would not consider running in normal conditions. Myself I would not run amsoil with less oil than 80:1

When you have less oil in the mix the motor runs richer. Just speaking of the fuel running through the carb. Less oil = more gas. Might make the unit run better on really cold days.

Could be that the gas itself was bad – ethanol phase separation so that there was water in the gas.

Could it also be that his mix was a little off?

Amsoil is very thick and if the entire amount didn’t get in the gas, or it was measured wrong from a larger container, or was poured in an empty gas can and not mixed well – 80:1 could easily become over 100:1.

Another thing to consider is the use of fuel additives/stabilizers. Stabilizers are more of a “fuel” than an “oil” and too much stabilizer will dilute your gas/oil mix.

Good to hear that he got it running again, and thanks for the update.

I’ve used Sabre 100/1 in everything I own that’s 2 cycle for the last 4-5 years with no problems and better starting.

CP, I have the same auger and I have always run 3.2 oz of Stihl synthetic to a gallon of gas. Been doing this for many years and the auger still runs great.
