Well the bonanza appears to be over… slowed yesterday to 4 Gills, (two sumos and 2 potato chips) in about an hour. We just stopped to check in with the regulars and let a kid from Arizona walk on water for the first time and catch his first gill.. After what has certainly been the best early ice gill action I have ever seen for consistantly larger fish ..it looks like its almost over… ice is just about past the 9 inch mark and snow is choking off the sunlight. With what appears to be another 4-20 inches of snow and another inch or two of ice coming in the next couple days that will probably close the deal. The easily 1500+,( probably closer to 3000), fish that have gone home with anglers to eat had to have an effect , too. Only one Northern at goose all early ice and it was only about 15 inches.. what a change from last year???
