Strikemaster service on a new Solo

  • #1300821

Well I went out this morning for my maiden ice fishing voyage of the year, and I guess what happened today was a little unexpected.

As I went to fire up my new Solo the auger slipped out of my hands and hit the ice. As I went to pick the auger up, I couldn’t believe what just happened. The composite handle as well as the exhaust casing were both broken…

Not even one hole drilled with my new Solo and I’m already looking to bring it in for service.

My question is what can I expect from Strikemaster at this point? Granted the auger did fall out of my hands and onto the snow covering the ice, but I would expect an auger of this quality to be a little more durable than that…

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I would think if you go to Big Lake and explain the situation they would fix you right up. Especially since this was your first outing. I’ve personally been taking care of like a king at the headquarters.

No better time to stop by, talk real nice, maybe bring some cookies…

I’m a big fan of dealing directly with the manufactures, in my experince I done much better this way.

StrikeMaster’s service department is second to none

    Another scenario…..

I just purchased a new pickup truck and as I was pulling out of the lot I didn’t check well enough to my right and pulled out into traffic. I was just clipped and now there is some damage to the bumper. Being a 4 wheel drive top of the line truck I thought it would be tougher than this. Do I turn it into my insurance company or should the dealer be responsible?
You mean something like that? Don’t get mad, you asked the question. Good clear ice can be hard on even tough equipment. Your auger sounds like it took a good bounce. Not sure that is the fault of StrikeMAster or a sign of a pour product. Take your push mower engine and hold it at the same height on the ice and give it a drop.
My StrikeMaster has seen it’s share of abuse and still keeps on firing off

I’m sure that was not the answer you wanted to hear, just my 2 cents worth.

Sorry to hear about the trouble, it does bite

I,m just wondering if anybody has experienced the same problem that i have with my new lazer pro.The rewind is sluggish to recoil the rope after i pull it out and i,m pretty sure it is due to the grease that was used to lubricate it. I plan to take it off and clean out the grease and oil it with light oil which i will due regularly.

I notice the same thing on the Pro I used this weekend. It isn’t a big issue at all but the last couple inches is slow to fully recoil. I noticed it most prominently when I made a long pull with the rope versus a shorter pull and I’m thinking your assessment regarding the grease is a likely culprit. Again, not a huge issue at all but one I’m sure that will be addressed in fine tuning.

As far as the performance of the auger goes… the Lazer Pro is simply incredible. I took a turn on the auger on Ottetail last night. After a quick run around a break line I turned around and counted the holes. 47 holes. 10 – 12 inches of ice. It went so quickly and effortlessly it felt like I hardly did anything.

Two on the new Solo so far!

Thanks james that is what i was hoping was the case so tommorrow before i hit the ice rewind comes off and gets cleaned and oiled hopefully will be the cure if not i will call customer service. And for performance i have yet to get the auger working where ive been fishing there is from 2.5 to say 8 inches so the auger is just winding up and im thru. And true to form its a nice light auger.

I know what you mean. 2.5″ – 8″ of ice really won’t give you a true indication of the capabilities. As the ice pushes past 20″ and more I think the qualities of this new line of augers will become even more apparent. Even at 12″ of ice you hardly get the auger up to speed for more than a few seconds before you’re through the ice and headed for the next hole.

It was obviously a poor attempt at a little “insurance agent

    has accident” humor.

No offense intended Justin and I hope you get your auger

fixed at little to zero out of your pocket.

I’ve read elsewhere about these units possibly having the wrong grease in the recoil which is freezing. No idea if this is just rumor or what, but keep that in mind.

I cleaned out the grease and put a little light oil on it and it works perfectly. I just wish the walleye bite wouldve been that easy to fix tonite caught 1 lost 1.

From what I heard Strikemaster is starting to take care of the recoil issue right away before it sells. I have a friend that bought one that wasn’t updated and it was a simple fix. It’s smooth as silk now and cuts holes like mad. I also have a buddy that was crazy enough to put a 6″ Lazer bit on a 3hp solo. Needless to say I think this should be illegal! It’s scarry how fast it cuts.

I haven’t run one of these augers yet but I heard one drilling holes this weekend and they sound mean.

Strike Master is suggesting that you spray the rewinds down with WD-40 on all the new Solo engines before you use them. When they were assembled the grease that was put in them gets thick when it is real cold. By spraying them with WD-40 it will eat that grease away to give you a flawless working rewind. Use the straw that comes with the can to get down inside. There is no need to take the unit apart to do this.

If you have not used one of the new Strike Masters with the Solo engines you are missing out. What an ice cutting machine. They are very impressive units to say the least.
