Engine issue with Strikemaster Auger

My 15 year old Strikemaster gas auger has served me very well. However, now I’ll need to start it several times before it runs enough to cut a hole. Each time it will run a few seconds longer until I’m finally able to drill a hole. Runs great after that point. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there something that can be repaired or is the old gal just tired?
    Thanks for any help!

    Mike, welcome to IDOfishing.com!

If you’re near Strikemaster’s location in Big Lake MN, take advantage of their walk-in service program. No appt necessary. Just walk in, and a few moments later walk out with a serviced, running auger. It’s saved more than one trip for me.

If a trip to Big Lake isn’t in the cards, check out the following link. Or call Strikemaster.

You might try running some seafoam in that. Might save you a trip.

Time for a tune up would be my guess.

I was having the same problem last year, I went and had the carbs gone through and now it runs like a champ again.

Myself, I’d start with seafoam, and if that didnt work good enough, take the carb apart and clean the jet and all the parts up real nice, my last trip would be to big lake, but I have little doubt they wouldnt be able to fix it on the spot. I suppose it all depends on how thrifty you are, how much it bothers you and how far you are from a service center.
Generally in my experince, dirty/fouled carbs run poor to start, once warmed up the run ok since the dont need as much gas when hot.

Also had same problem only to the point it would not ever stay running. I took off the carb, brought it inside ,took it all apart and sprayed with carb cleaner. Runs like new, just make sure you be carefull attention to how you take it apart so you put it back together right.

2 Things I would look at and you could possibly fix this yourself is #1 the fuel line and filter and second would be the diagphram inside the carb. Presonally the only place that touches my auger is D-Rock center in New Brighton on old hwy 8 the gas line fuel filter combo for my 1984 mag 3 was #8.00 dollars on this past tuesday. This would be closer than atrip out to Big Lake.
