I have a 5 year old Strikemaster auger that has never had the blades re-sharpened (I used to rarely icefish, but am now getting back into it) Do the blades easily come off and where’s the best place to get them sharpened?

I would highly recommend strikemaster blade exchange service.
    Very simple and cost effective.

Be darn careful. Even the dullest of blades will cut the heck out of a guy.

If You don’t have a 2nd set of blades I would go buy one. That way you don’t ever miss even a day of fishing, waiting for your blades from the blade exchange to arrive. WHich by the way all you may miss is a day or so if you don’t have a spare set. I love StrikeMaster!

Thanks for the replies, any idea how much a new set of blades cost at say Gander Mountain? Maybe it makes more sense for me this first time to buy a second set so I always have a backup. Also considering after all the shippings costs, replacements blades would still cost over $30 anyways…

I was just looking at getting new blades for my 6″ laser hand auger and they wanted $33 at a bait shop so i would save $6 getting replacement blades

Is there a way for somebody to sharpen the blades themselves?

Is it possible? Yes. But you have to have a special template to get the exact pitch right.
