Here in eastern Iowa (CR and IC) area wax worms are hard to find right now! Anyone have an outlet in this area for buying waxworms in bulk tubs? How do most of you store these critters for extended time?

    Teamcrappie:

I don’t know much about what there is for bait at your location, but lots of us mail-order bait, and keep them in-bulk throughout the year in the larger Strikemaster Bait Pucks (Bait Puck 2’s).

I personally use Vados – see related post

I order mine online at jadabait.net. I have been doing this for years, and one bulk order lasts all season. They are a Wi. company and their free shipping only takes 2 to 3 days. They also carry spikes and mealworms.

How long do your wax worms usually last? Mine never last very long and I generally keep them at room temperature, but they die with in a week it seems.

Go to jadabait.net. They will give you detailed directions on how to store your waxies and spikes.

Keep them in a cool spot like a refrigerator or a root cellar they will last four months that way!!

My tub sits right in the window sill…I usually go thru the tub to pick out any that are on their way out…keeping the tub clean of dead bugs keeps the rest of them lively !!
