Well, it’s ice season again and that means that Justin and I are planning for another trip to shake things up. This year we are looking at Mille Lacs lake and the Brainerd area for a 3-6 day excursion (probably leaning toward the. 6 ). I was hoping to find people on here that would be a.) willing to give us some info and tips for the area and b.) possibly be willing to link up with us for a day of fun fishing. We are looking to spend a couple days on Mille Lacs for eyes and perch before switching gears to small lakes for sumo panfish for the rest of the trip. Info including where to find some big panfish, what to expect for ice, where to stay, and access would be much appreciated. I’ve been waiting a long time to turn 18 and have the ice fishing trip of a lifetime and we’re hoping this will be just that. Our trip will be from December 26 to around new year’s. Feel free to pm info, and thanks in advance for the help!! -Cade

So what does yours guys virginity have to do with fishing Mille Lacs?

Good luck with both of those up there. The reefs close to shore and the Blue Goose may be good places to start.

I hear the Red Door on the north end is a great place to go out of,Watch their reports and also you will be close to farm island lake there too.

Also, is there a place up there to rent snowmobiles or fourwheelers, assuming the lake won’t be ready for vehicle traffic??

only place I have seen to rent snowmobiles is McCoids on the outskirts of Isle. There maybe more, just not any I’m aware of. They also rent overnight shacks, so maybe you could work out a deal with them. That time frame can be hot/cold, but I’ve experienced some good fishing at that time on the south west corner out of Rocky Reef. I would look at some spots on the north end, sand to rock transitions, or gravel to rock, and don’t be afraid to go shallow.

Take a deep breath before you check the prices for rentals. You may want to just borrow one.

TTT…Right now we’re looking at 2 nights in a shack on Mille Lacs for $70/night. I thought that sounds very reasonable but if anyone knows anything better let me know!

Also research the resort you plan on staying at…There may be a reason they are cheaper.

I wouldn’t let my dog sleep in some of these shacks certain resorts drag out there (Mother-In-Law yes, dog no).

Service provided by the resort can vary a LOT as well!

    Ask around for recomendations.

We’re looking at the Fisherman’s resort..sounded decent to me on their website. As long as it provides a place to sleep overnight I will be happy. We will probably be in portables for much of the time throughout the days.
