So what do you guys like to use for first ice lures for pan fish? Do you go large or small lures? What colors do you like? Looks like with this weather my ice fishing season is going to start early this year. Think Im going to just start out with where I left off last year. Thats with Ratsos and Gil pills.

Should be on hard water Saturday morning.

I like the gill pills in a number 10….zebra colors. Tipped with either a spike or plastic.

Plastics have out fished live bait by far for me in the last two years. Black Shrimpos on a white or black Gill Pill set horizontally. I’m no ice expert by any means, more like a casual amateur, but you can’t argue with what works on finicky panfish.

i like a diamond jig or a moon glow either in orange or chartreuse tipped with a red spike, or finesse plastic….i seem to have better luck with bright colors for early ice

The big hubcap gills here really want a purist. red, black, purple. sometimes a scud fly is the only thing they want. That big snow here hit open water and we have nice ice forming in the early spots here. Mother nature did us a favor by sending the snow before the cold.

This is the one! If I can’t get the gills to bite on a spoon, this is the ticket.
And I’m still working on Bob G to name it “Zebra”
