Fished on the north end of Desoto Bay(Green Lake) area on Monday.Ice was about 2 inches thick only and that was on the very south end of it.Had to leave at 1 oclock because of the water was starting to run out of the holes.Started at day light and only had a few gills to show for it.But it was nice to get the season started thats for sure. There was about 8 guys out there fishing all together that morning. It was nice to see some of the old die hards still around from last winter.Hope the weather man is wrong about this snow storm coming in tonight, this could really throw the monkey wrench into the start of ice fishing. Well take care everyone STEVE

I was wondering how the ice would be there. Did you try any place else, like shore slough?
Yes, this snow storm is going to make it tough for a few days.

Thanks for the update, BB. I’ll keep the fingers crossed that some of the snow misses you down there.

Your finger crossing isn’t doing the trick James! We’ve got a solid 6″ all ready with a sky full of Whovilles yet to land. The question becomes will the N to NW 20 to 30 mph winds “sweep” some of the white stuff off a thin layer of clear ice in the next 24 to 36 hours?

GreenLake has always been my go to spot for early ice.It seems like it always freezes up about as early as any place. No didn’t try Shore Slough but thought about it tho..Down around Prairie theres to much deep water for me to even think about trying it down here.My brother was out just north of Bagley(Havel Lake)and fished for a while on Monday but ran into the same thing I did.Bad ice getting worse about noon our so and had to beat feet also. Not much biting for him either.Next couple of days will tell us a lot about how good our bad this ice formation is going to be.Well good luck guys. Also Found a tough bite Tuesday on pool 8. Tip toed around on 2″ on a first ice hot spot. Lots of sniffers on camera but only a half dozen tiny perch and gills. I found a couple really sketchy spots, and later 3 bozos came out walking around like they were on dry land, no concern whatsoever. The one particullar area had about 1/2″ and the one guy, 16 oz milwaukee’s best and all, didn’t even have a spud. And I loved when he walked back and forth past my shanty 3 feet away…Be smart, things aren’t looking good with the snow..
