Well I guess I found out I am not a hard core ice fisherman. There was a group of guys out fishing on the back bay of Lake Menomonin in Monomonie, WI yesterday. My buddy was down there and reported possible 2 to 3 inches of ice. One guy was sitting in a canoe and another sitting in his flat bottom. On the ice none the less. There were 2 other brave soul’s out standing on the ice.

2 years ago my buddy and I sunk a little 12 foot boat in the red cedar river at the end of February. I have no plans to ever be in 36 degree water again. Swimming to shore in water logged Carhart’s was not fun. Since I am not a cat I will not push it on the nine lives bit. Being 250 lbs I need a few more inches of ice before I will venture out. For those of you that do please be safe.

I opted for a wonderful day down at Pool 4 and as usual getting the current info from the staff at Everts and a few moves helped us enjoy the day even more!

    Yikes!

I drove by both the Bay and the Cutoff yesterday and didn’t see a soul around.

Also, looking at the ice there is no way you would see me out there!

She was WIDE open on Saturday.

No fish is worth falling in, guys. Give it a few more days, especially with our impending snow storm, before venturing out.

I guess it was around 3:30 PM when my buddy called me to let me know.

That’d make sense, I drove by 9am or so

Now for the real information…Did they catch anything?

I’m sorry, but some panfish aren’t worth risking a swim. Pushing out a canoe certainly isn’t worth it just to say that you were the first one out. The Cut-off was open for the most part yet Saturday morning.

I’m hoping we get little snow…or the wind blows it clear anyway. Another week certainly isn’t going to hurt.

I helped a guy load his canoe on his trailer last year on butch’s bay, it was probably the same old guy. Last year the first time i went out there, I think there was about 1″ to 3″ of ice and there were 20+ guys out there. The ice seemed pretty solid, but yes, still crazy. I always wait until i see the big 250lbs. plus guys out there, and then I figure it can handle my 165lbs.
I’ll be down on menomin somewhere on wednesday hopefully(blue ford) if somebody wants to say hello.

Snow going to mess things up? This has to be the most worried I have ever seen people about snow that I can remember. I’ll be going tomorrow, and maybe running around checking some spots.
