Help Choosing a new auger

I sold my old auger and I’m going to buy a new Strikemaster but not sure of which one to get. I’m considering all 4 models all with an 8″ blade. I found really good prices and the Lazer Mag, Lazer Pro, and a Refurbished Lazer Lite are all within $30 of each other. I kind of ruled out the Magnum just because I want a little more power and don’t care for the Poly Gear housing.

What would you choose? The 4 Stroke would be nice but I don’t know if I’m in love with the poly auger and the big ring on the bottom of it, plus it is only a 1 year warranty compared to the 2 year on the Solo motors.

    Help me out guys!

LazerPro gets my vote. 1/2 horse more at the same weight

as the 2.5hp for an extra 30.00.

I’ll be the odd man out saying Nils Master over a Strikemaster

Nils would be nice but $$$$ I will stick with a USA Company and I really like Strikemaster. I think Jiffy went backwards and Eskimo is not the quality overall as Strikemaster.

Not sure if I need the extra .5 HP with an 8″ blade and there is only a 20 dollar difference between the 2.5 Solo and the refurbed 4 Stroke, just not sold on the 4 Stroke yet unless someone changes my mind.

A Nils isn’t that much more than a top of the line Strikemaster. Bonus is they havent changed much in years just not as mainstream. I ran Stikemasters for years to and they did their job. In the end they all make holes and thats all we need. I was looking at getting a Strikelite when I walked into the baitshop last year walked out with a Nils instead for $20 more, steel auger and light weight sold me after looking at the 2, plus my brother talked highly of his nils.

I have never saw a Nils auger in person until the ice show this past weekend. I was very impressed and was shocked when i found out that a 8 inch power auger weighs 18 pounds, compaired to a strikemaster at 26 pounds. I currently own a strikemaster lazer mag and really like it so far. I really wish that I could have waited another year and held out for a new strikemaster solo, they sure are a sweet machine.

It really looks to me like SM is on to something with the SOLO engines. The people who have tried them really seem to like them. That said – I don’t think you can do better than Nils. Light and FAST. It’s gonna be YOUR auger so if it is a SM you want – you have every right to only consider them. But if you don’t at least consider the Nils…IMO you aren’t doing yourself any favors.
