I never use a flasher and i still out fish my buddies.I do use aquaview scout xl to make sure the fish are where they are supposed to be.Plus the lights mess with my eyes after awhile.A good ice angler should not need one. YES or NO?

I have a flasher and camera. Does that make me a better ice fisherman than others? Don’t know….

I just use them because I want to catch more fish! And watching fish underwater is really cool!

Does a flasher make you a better fisherman? Nope, there is more to being a better fisherman than just catching fish!

Does a flasher/camera help a good fisherman put more fish in front of the camera? Most certainly

Even if you know the spots through out the year, watching reactions on a flasher/camera dictates presentation and offerings. A fisherman that knows he is sitting on fish and can see what part of the water column the fish are using makes for a great advantage over the blind!

Just in my opinion, the flasher is more versatile than a camera. If on the move all you need to do with the flasher is drop the transducer in the hole. A camera requires more set time and that does not make for easy hole hopping.

If set up in a shack without planning on moving, the camera makes for a lot of fun to watch while checking out the quarries reactions.

If you are beating the out of fish w/out a flasher- you will beat even more out of fish with one. South Dakota actually did a study on this and it was pretty obvious that your catch rate will increase.

I don’t know if a flasher will make you a better fisherman but it will help you catch more fish. It’s nice to know the exact depth your fishing and if any fish are in the area or not.

If I had to sit out there and blindly jig I wouldn’t stay out as long as I do when I’m fishing with my flasher, just that alone gets me more fish. I wouldn’t want to run n gun nearly as much. Once you own a flasher you’ll turn around at the lake and drive home to get it if you forgot it.

Being a good fisherman is all about ethics, having fun, picking up your litter, ect.

If you can whoop your buddies now without a flasher you should get one and really let them have it

Depends what brand you like and what your looking for in a flasher, but if the lights are a big concern to where you don’t want to fish with one because they are to bright you might want to look at the FL-20 because you can dim the lights.

You may want to take a look at the Showdown. It is a LCD display that does not have the flashing lights. Not as common but it may fit your needs.

A flasher is a tool, when used correctly is indespensible to an angler. I now simply won’t go fishing with out mine, ya I can catch fish without one but I am a more effective angler with one.

I would stick with Marcum or Vexiliar for units. IMHO

I have fished with other guys that don’t have flashers, poor souls , and outfished them badly! not only do you mark fish but you watch how they react to your bait or lure. I would no longer fish without one.

If you can outfish you buddies without a flasher you are either a great fisherman or your buddies are not very good fishermen. The only time I’m ice fishing without my flasher is when someone I’m fishing with does not have one and is tired of watching me outfish them and they ask to use it. If my flashers died on me I’d be at a store the next morning waiting for the doors to open to buy a new one. If you are interested I may be selling my Vexilar Fl-18 propack soon. If Interested feel free to PM me. If you get a new flasher let us know if you think it makes you a better fisherman.

Yes to camera… for seeing where the structure is especially in deeper water

Yes to the Showdown… it just helps you mentally to see the fish following your jig.. but to be perfectly honest once I know they are there and following lots of times it gets turned off, it gets in the way of me listening to myself talk, and when your 9 years old like me every little bit helps
