Good ol’ Lake Menomonin is still wide open. I haven’t checked the bay yet. Cmon’ old man winter I need my fix! Poles have new line, portable is ready to go, tip ups ready to go, ice not ready to go . The only good thing about the late ice is that the green monster (Lake Menomonin) had time for the algae bloom to die off. We had one heck of a fish kill due to the early freeze last year. Everything I heard pointed to the algae not having time to die off before the freeze and then consuming all of the available oxygen. Hopefully this year turn out better.

The croix is iced over in Stillwater all the way across but around Sunny Side Marina it has open areas. Around a 1/4 inch where I checked.

I had the FedEx guy deliver some packages today and seeing as he drove across the river on I90 I got a report from him that said the side puddles/backwaters of the river were skimmed/frozen over. It’s supposed to get down below 10 degrees for several nights later this week with highs near 20…that should start building ice fast all over.

Checked out lake neshonoc in west salem about 11:00a.m., 99% iced over. There was no ice yesterday, what is there is only about a quarter inch, it would not hold any weight yet. With the cold temps and it being skinned over it shouldn’t be too much longer.

Yep, I made a swing past the lake last night and like you said, except for some ice in the stump field things were wide open. That wind laying down has helped a lot

When you checked yesterday did you see the kids in the truck pulled over? Heads up friends, they are monitoring the 10MPH speed limit on the backside of the lake, and they should

I’m driving a red chevy with a red topper, flash your lights if you see me checking it this week whenever you are so I can say hello

Bret, I did meet you at the sport shop one evening back in september, I was headed out fishing with the family and was picking up some bait. I drive a maroon f-150sc say high if you see me.

I live just off the lake so I can keep a pretty good eye on things from my house. Will keep informed on action or lack there of.

    Tight lines, Bryce

I’m sure we will bump into each other trying to be first on the ice

With what little ice there is and the forecast for allot of snow tues. & wed. it’s going to make thing interesting. I was hopping this weekend would be the start but if we get the snow they are claiming is on the way I might have to wait a little longer.

I am hoping the high winds that are predicted to hit with the snow helps keep the ice clean. If not, you are right, it is going to be touch and go.

What’s up guys? I am on my way out to check some ice on the metro lakes. Should be able to give some good reports later on. Not happy with the snow, but it’s supposed to stay cold so it should not do to much damage to the lakes.

most lakes in burnett county Wi are safe to walk on 2 to 4″. Let the ice fishing season start

I just hope the snow is light and fluffy to keep the ice in good shape!!!

Around La Crosse, the area I was hoping to walk onto this weekend, of which looked great after the weekend…….doesn’t look so good now with the snow.

Even with the winds picking up, I think there was enough snow stickin’ to the ice at first that it’s just going to build up

Guess I’ll check stuff out after the storm. Until then, It’s hunker down time I have tomorrow off and sleepin’ in sounds good to me right now

I went to the lake close to me on Monday and it only had a couple small areas froze, with the wind from the blizzard it should break it up and have a fresh start after this “EPIC” snow storm we’re getting here in Iowa!!!!!

ok so first of all i think this post should be a sticky just ffor ice reports so people will get informed. thats my oppinion, and second of all, has anybody checked the ice in centerville, or tried to fish it. its usually a first ice fishing lake for many anglers, so i’m assuming there are already people out there.
