Hype on Strikemaster Solo?

  • #1300607

    Hey guys,

Thinking about heading down to the show next weekend and picking up a new Strikemaster Auger. My auger is pushing 15 years old, so I think its about time to replace it with a new one.

From what I have heard, the new Solo engines are supposed to be one of the bigger advances in auger technology in some time. So with that said, any informative Pros & Cons on this auger yet? Is it gonna live up to the hype?

Also what do you reccomend as far as HP goes; 2, 2.5 or 3Hp? If it helps im looking for something lightweight, reliable, and something that can drill 20-30 holes an outing with no problems.

And last, any word on special show pricing?

From what I have read and heard they all are nice machnes and I think it depends on how much money you want to spend, with only 20-30 holes an outting I would go with the 2.5 but if do more… go big or stay home .JMHO

I am hoping to sell mine here soon and get the 2.5 version

Too new, to here of any cons thus far

For the 30.00 extra I’d get the 3 h.p. “LazerPro” over the

    2.5 h.p. “LazerMag”.

They both weigh in @ 26 lbs. (8″ model)

That’s what I’m going to do.

This auger will do everything you expect it to do and more..Its very solid auger! From the auger head to the drill itself. This machine comes in a variety of shapes and sizes. It is best to get to the show hold on in your hands, that way you can decide which one feels the best. Having a chance to drill a few holes last winter is the main reason why I have switched very early this season. A very durable auger as well. This auger handled very well in the rough terrain of Canada, being pulled in the Otter house. Fired on the first pull almost every time. I do feel this auger will turn heads this winter on the ice. Both in perfomance as well as durability.

    Come on ice…

They sure look like a nice setup. I am being a bit cautious though, there was a ton of hype about the 4 stroke version and now you don’t hear alot about them.

I heard the solo engine might only be a one year deal.

Techumseh engines went thru a reorganazation and may very well be back next year.

I suppose it all depends on the performance for the solo this year.
Cost and profit margin will also be a huge factor.

There’s no way Strikemaster would go back to the Techumseh engines. Not unless Techumseh comes out with a dramatically improved product.

The Strikelite is one of Strikemaster’s top sellers and will continue to be for years to come. I think the decrease in “hype” you perceive is the natural tapering off of talk about a product once it has been on the market for a few years. But SM’s 4 stroke product isn’t going anywhere.

The solo is the new product this year and taking the lime light…

The FW started my Strike Lite for the first time this year the other day on two pulls and again was amazed at it’s quietness.

Did you ask your FW to wear her bikini top and StrikeMaster bibs, with the bibs being semi-fastened, while starting it?

I couldn’t agree more, James. Also, alot of the typical chatter you hear about augers is BAD stuff…problems with this and that, not cutting, not starting etc. Fortunately the StrikeLite is such a solid peerformer that runs reliably day in and day out, so that kind of chatter just isn’t out there for the StrikeLite.

Just few more days to this ice show and I pick up my Solo! I’m pretty sure it’ll be better than Christmas!

I wondered about the strikelite just have not heard alot about them lately. In my opinion a fourstroke has become such a better option in almost every sport (snowmobiles, dirt bikes, boat motors etc). Its different power to get use to but longevity/durability seem to be much better.

That being said I wouldn’t own anything but a strikemaster myself. My strikemaster is 15 years old this year and all my buddies wish they owned it, starts excellent, cuts really fast, and I haven’t touched it yet. Hate to admit it, but I believe I am still on the original spark plug and ZERO maintenence done on it since new (really hate to admit that I am meticulous with everything else)

    Thanks for the input

All too often thats great news for a relatively new product. People are 100 times more likely to speak out negatively. If people are quiet, odds are the product is doing great. That is the Strikelite’s case
