    Howdy,
Do you use swivel snaps to allow quick changing of lures and prevent line twist?
My first year on the ice was last year and I often thought that would be the way to go but was concerned they might have a negative affect on the fish.
    Thanks,

I personally always just tie a polimer knot directly on the jig or hook. I don’t want to present my bait to look larger and don’t want the extra weight.

By the way welcome to IDO Crappie66

    Great!
I don’t need swivels but I have an excuse for another rod!
    Sweet.
    Thanks for the responses.

Try these……. next time you’re on the frozen wonder. Cycling through an assortment of jigs – both verticle & horizontal – looking for that sure fire producer is a SNAP!

The No-Knot Fas-Snaps rock Bosman I have been using them for many years now, back in the day you could only find them in the Fly section at your local bait shop.

There are some that don’t like the way the gill pills hang from them (or some other baits) but I have experienced just the opposite. Everyone has a preference in there presentation

For vertical they cannot be beat. Without a knot directly to the vertical jig or horizontal for that matter, your bait will pick up a ton more action because it is not hindered by being directly tied to the line.

The other big bonus to the snaps…..on them very cold days a lot of guys get lazy and do not change up jigs as often as they should. With the Fas Snap I can change out a jig and have the hands back into protection in the matter of seconds while hole hopping. Most of the time it takes longer for me to decide what jig to use next than it takes to change them out

Good luck on the ice and welcome to IDO

I use these as well. They are available in really small sizes and really don’t hurt the action. I think on some jigs they really help.

    Same here…the smallest size floats….
Damn hard to tie the little ones with old eyes though

Yes, I’ve tried the Fas snaps. Can run the line thru ok but have trouble switching the jigs, even using a needle nose pliers, will practice some more before the water gets hard
Thanks to all for your advice,

I experienced the same problem. Is there a trick to using them?

    Just like a Baitcaster…..practice.

Keeping dexterity in a pair of fingers is a big help. I have failed with pliers also when using small jigs n snaps (#14 Gill Pills being small) but, practice and keeping the thumb nails a tad longer than the rest of the fingers has been a great help with the small Fas snaps (75% percent of the time I’m using Med. anyways). Plus the end of my thumbs don’t split as bad as they use too with the extra protection

Also, if you can’t see the opening in the end of a small Fas Snap…give up and get yourself a pair of eye cheaters

Amazing what seeing stuff can do for a guy

Well, after reading this years InFisherman Ice Fishing Guide I found on the very last page mention of Fastach Clips.
I ordered some of the smallest ones but not sure how small they are so the jury is still out. But it is a similar idea and it gives you more to work with when lining up the jig hole.
    See them on Muskyshop.com.
