OK….I’ve fished with the same couple noodle rods for big slabs for the past 12 years. Anyone who has fished with me knows the ones I’m talking about. I have yet to find a nice Panfish rod that has similiar action. I MUST MUST see one of these rods!! I’m sure if Custom J&S it teamed up with Thorne Bros this has got to be THE “PAN-TA-STICK”
Chris, I would suggest getting three, a panfish sweetheart, a power noodle, and a quiver stick- These three rods are my mainstay panfishing rods.
Are you coming down for the st.paul ice show? If so you can check them out there, and I will bring all of mine, and you can check them out too..
What are the dates for the Ice Show this year?? Have kicked the idea around about bringing the Queen down and helping work some booths and talk smart about products and RAINY LAKE. Been a couple years since I’ve been there, and love the Buzz with all the new gear…
was just putting those dates on my calander, First weekend in Dec. That looks like a real nice rod!
Great looking rod Luke.
I like to use a special zip tie I have to attach my reels to my ice rods. How do you attach yours Luke and others???

I use electrical tape….one trick I learned from Pat Smith at Thorne Bros. Apply a small strip of masking tape prior to the electrical tape. The electrical tape then has something to stick to vs just the cork handle.

If you use friction tape or hockey tape you will not have a slick or slippery spot to hold onto.

Yep, learned that from Pat too after tearing up a couple handles. I switch rods and reels out alot so its nice and quick.
I was afraid to look at this post because I promised myself I wouldn’t buy anything new for ice fishing this year. The SnoSuit is already on its way.
Electrical tape
Nice thought on both the underlayment of Masking tape, and the overlay of Hockey tape.
I do masking tape, then electrical. I like to color code- I have four different walleye thorne bros sweetheart rods- so I have them all blue tape- Four different panfish thorne bros sweethearts all red tape-
Orange…
Black…
Etc, that way if they are in my revolution bag, or otter hard back, I can quickly grab the right rod-
Man I was afraid you were going to say the lakes are freezing over already. I’m and ice fisherman as well as opein water and I’m just not ready yet.
Why’d you have to post this. I just got a combo from Thorn Bro’s! Now I want another one. I have a wedding to pay for next fall

Right-on Calvin, I learned the same thing from the same source. Another added bonus, is that you won’t get any sticky buildup or black-gunk on those beautiful rods should you ever decide to move the reel up or down the handle.
I leave two strips of masking tape on the rods year-round, and then reapply new electrical tape (also in strips) each year to firmly secure the reels. Never any play, and by far the best way I’ve found to secure reels to the ice-rods.
Joel
Awesome stick Luke! The quiverstick is the best panfish rod I’ve ever laid my hands on.
