I’m in the market for some new ice fishing Bibs. I’d like to hear all the pro’s and con’s on the 3 most common ones ( Snosuit, Ice Armor, and vexilar cold snap ) as well as any other ones out there. Doing some research today I found out that Snosuit was bought by Frabill ( I’m sure someone here has already posted that ) I’ve heard nothing but good Info. about the snosuit but have a hard time with the cost ( $249.00 ) for the Bibs. I can get a full set of the other 2 brands for that cost or less. Thanks in advance for all of you thoughts and input.

I hardly ever buy anything insulated. Layering has always worked for me. So the Cabelas gore-tex Guidewear bibs that I wear during a summer downpour are the same bibs I wear during ice season. Long underwear, jeans then bibs is usually sufficent to stay warm and dry in cold conditions. Multifunctional, tough, and can be used throughout the year under any condition and temperature range. Reinforced knees are nice when kneeling on ice. They are over 10 years old now and still going strong!!

edit – watch for clearance sales on the Cabelas website… you can often get them on sale or half off, depending on the models.

Just go here: Crosslakesales.com- then fishing-then ice fishing clothing-
You can get an entire snosuit for 300 right now-
Snosuit is the best! And at that price you can’t afford not to buy it-
Let me know if you have any other questions!October 14, 2009 at 8:58 pm #809215Quote:

Luke. Thanks for the Info. That is a great deal.
I really don’t want a full suit. I wish they had a deal on just the bibs. They do have some great deals on the Artic Armor as well. Thorne’s told me that Snosuit are no longer making the full suits. If anyone is looking for a full suit and wants a great deal I’d hurry and order you one.

Cabelas gore-tex Guidewear bibs
Another vote for the Cabelas Guidewear.
October 14, 2009 at 10:11 pm #809230This will be year #3 on my Vexilar Bibs. I really cant compare them to any of the others , but I love them and they keep me way warm.
October 14, 2009 at 10:32 pm #809237Snosuit is the way to go. No need for a fish house then. You will stay much more mobile and catch more fish than hunkering down in a fish house. Maybe you could by the coat and bib set and if you dont want the set sell the coat. Im sure there are plenty of people that would be happy with it.
A con about the Snosuit? You will get lonely on the ice because all of your buddies will be hiding in there portables waiting for the fish to come to them. .
October 14, 2009 at 11:24 pm #809255crosslakesales.com sells a lot of refurbished stuff so you need to be careful when dealing with them. I got an aqua vu that had to go back for warranty repair the day I got it. Luckily it had a 90 day refurbished model warranty. They certainly don’t publish the fact that they sell refurbished goods.

I’m the same on this one only I have Game hide instead!
October 15, 2009 at 1:19 am #809286Another vote for the Snosuit. I find myself in just the bibs a lot. I’m a hoodie kind of guy and only put the coat on when the winds blowing or when it’s really cold.
October 15, 2009 at 2:51 am #809314I think crosslake does advertise fairly, if it is a refurb, the have refurb listed on the picture, as far as the snosuit, it is listed as new with tags, where as the aqua views are listed with refurb across the picture-
Fish- I believe you can just order the bibs!
October 15, 2009 at 5:51 am #809334I have been using the Vexilar Cold Snap gear and have been very happy with that. Lots of pockets to carry gear in and keeps you warm/dry too. You can buy either the set or just the bibs if you like.
October 15, 2009 at 12:29 pm #809352FT, i was just at gander in EP last nite, went by their ice armor display and now ice armor sells bibs only. they are all black and im not sure if its the same material or what the price point is. i just remembered seeing them selling separates as i ran past it to get to the bow hunting stuff.
October 15, 2009 at 12:34 pm #809353My Gamehides are fantastic for Spring and Fall. But after watching numerous buddies get Snosuits and rave about them…I bit the bullet. You cannot go wrong with this suit! Cold absolutely positively cannot penetrate this suit. There are times when you really wish you had one if you didn’t.

I second that!! Best cold weather investment I have ever made
October 15, 2009 at 5:53 pm #809454I have been happy with my strikemaster bibs. You could also wait for the ice fishing show to buy a set of bibs and compare them all in one day. You will most likely find a good deal on a set of ice fishing bibs there.
October 17, 2009 at 2:27 am #809778I’ve had the guidewear insulated bibs for 4 years now. I usually just wear shorts underneath them. I’ve been very pleased with this purchase
October 17, 2009 at 12:21 pm #809814You Iowa guys are funny. Fishing in guidewear and shorts. Come up here and try that in February.
October 17, 2009 at 1:25 pm #809816Marshal could do it…and he take that “champ” status in five seconds too…
October 17, 2009 at 5:13 pm #809827Typical Iowa guys, have to have a professional football player fight their fights for them.
Speaking of the big boy, you know he’s gonna get a work out this weekend in the dome. SKOL VIKINGS!!!!

Oh, one other thing. NO WAY he catches me in 5 seconds.
Being the “champ” has nothing to do with size or never coming out on the loosing end of a scuffle. Being the “champ” means you take all comers, win, lose or draw. And nobody can take that away from ya’ Kooty. Even if Marshall broke you into bite sized pieces.
October 18, 2009 at 2:10 am #809873I think I am coming up for the game, I have tickets in my back pocket! You going to be there? GO RAVENS!!
You know kooty, I can arrange it, to see if he can’t catch you!!
October 18, 2009 at 12:29 pm #809894No, I won’t be there. Sold my tickets to this game. Have fun, enjoy the $7.00 beers.
October 18, 2009 at 4:28 pm #809916I like my guideware !!!
where did this discussion go ?
I did pick up a bibs/jacket set from the Snow Suit company this fall. I’m looking forward to using them this winter for sure !!
October 19, 2009 at 12:02 pm #810061I bought a pair of Carhartt Extremes a couple of years ago.
They are the warmest bibs I’ve ever worn. They are almost
too warm when hole hopping when the temp is above 32.
I paid under 100.00 for mine which makes it hard to pay
2 1/2 times that for some other bibs.
Here is some info on the Extremes;
“Our Men’s Extremes® zip-to-waist biberall is water-repellent and designed for the coldest conditions. Made of 1000-denier Cordura® nylon, it’s lined in arctic-weight 100% quilted nylon polyester. It features a zipper front and leg zippers that zip to the hip and are covered with snap close wind flaps. It also has double knees with cleanout bottoms to accommodate knee pads and zippered hand pockets.”
I have a pair of Guidewear uninsulated bibs for warmer
weather ice fishing. I wear a Guidewear insulated parka
over both the Carhartt’s and the Guidewear bibs.
