I am going to be in LaCrosse the last week of January for business and would like to get out fishing some night. I am not familiar with the area and I am looking for any suggestions. I noticed that last time I was down there people were fishing the backwater area between La Cresent and La Crosse on Hwy 61. 
Any help would be appreciated.

Brownsville about eight miles south of LaCrescent has always been good to me. Most people fish Lawrence Lake, a big backwater area north of town. You can’t miss it, especially on the weekend because there are so many cars parked along the road. The bay below the lake where the bait shop and landing are can be very good for crappies when they’re there. The bait shop will have a report.

you’re not telling him about that “secret” spot that consistantly holds 10″-13″ ‘gills are ya? 
If I had a spot that consistently held 10-13″ gills, I’d quit my job.
