Hey. Last year I went Ice fishing with the new inlaws and it was my first time out. I had a blast. That being said. I’m looking to get a new ice rod and reel. Mostly for pan fish but I want it to beable to pull up walleyes too if they hit. So who makes a good all around rod and reel or which woulod make a good combo to put together. Try to keep it under 75 buck too please

St. Croix Legend in the Lite action. Put the spring bobber on for panfish and take it off for the walleyes. Put a Tica reel on there and your good to go. I’d also recommend the Thorne Bros rods, but I can’t really think of a model that would pull double duty very well.

Tica SS500 reel ($43)for sure that leaves you $25 for a St Croix Premier 24″ med/light rod ($22)and 4lb ice line. (Prices looked up on Thorn Bros web site)

Cool! I’m just up the road from Thorn Bros. The Ticca looks like the way to go. I do like the St.Croix rods too. Can always ask at Thorn Bros. too I guess. Oh and I don’t count line and such in the price. I just wan’t to keep it around that price range.

I would recommend the st.croix legend ice rod as well. I have a light action, love the spring design. They are a bit pricy though, but the combo of the great rod backbone and the spring design is nice. I dont even use my other panfish rods anymore, because they seem way to flimsy and double over to much when hooking fish. I use 3 lb. line for panfish, which can bring up a wally, and if you are not actually targeting walleyes will be fine. Don’t use very heavy of line when you are just using little panfish baits.

Since I grew up in Park Falls Wi where St. Croix HQ is located I second getting a Legend Rod. I have 2 ultra-lights and 1 lite rods. With the spring bobber on the Lite rod, you will have the sensitivity for panfish and enough backbone for the Walleyes. I really do like my ultra-lite rods though. I have pulled up tons of panfish with them and a few walleyes up to 20 inches without any problem.

All good suggestions but you really want two rods for perch and walleyes. Go to Thorne and heft a few. The perch sweetheart or something comes to mind. I really like my frabil panfish popper rod and it was cheap. You also need a deadstick for perch and walleye fishing IMHO. And you’ll need a case for your rods or they will get beaten.

Then you’ll need a scout, a 2 man flip, a power auger, a hand auger, a heater, a flasher, a camera, some cable structure, a dozen tip ups (get the Beaver dams), then the 4 wheeler and trailer to haul it all and you are good to hook.

Well I already got the snowsuit. Bought it last year before I went out. Father in law and brother in law who I fish with both have flashers and a camera. They also have the Flip up houses too. And being I always fish with them or other frienjd who have houses I’m all good. Been aquiring lures and jigs for the ice season all year and god a lot of good ones when Sportsman’s Closed.
