Ice fishing right around the corner

Well the F/W gave me the blessing to look for a ice shack. I have a couple portables but am looking for something more like the camper style that can be uses for a portable hunting shack, ice fishing and of course camping in the summer.

So I have been researching Ice Castle, King Crows, Lodges but I am new to this and not really sure where to start. The questions I have are as follows:

    Does anyone finance these things?
    What brands are better?
Where can a guy find one that is a couple of years old?
Can a person right off the interest if it has a bathroom, furnace and cook stove in it?
    V-Front vs non?
Am I gonna regret it, becasue I like to be somewhat mobile and how do they get through the snow when it gets later into winter?

    How long do they last?

Looking to spend between $6500-$7500, so with that said am I crazy to think that I will be able to buy a new one?

I am looking for one that sleeps 2-3 adults with a bathroom. 6×14 OR 6×16.

    Looking for advise.

    Thanks Jason

    Jason,

I was considering this a year ago also. Actually was thinking of building my own. Anyway, I had some great responses. I’ll try to search for that thread. Lots of these types of shacks on Craigs. Good deals too. $5k will get you something very nice. $7.5k will be super nice.

    One word……DREAMSHAK…

Well worth the price, awesome camper/fishhouse. I think the Mrs. will want to fish more often if you have one of these. Expensive but well worth the price, they seem to hold the resale value very well.

I’m still not finding the thread I had in mind. Hopefully the IDO faithfull will chime in. They had suggestions on what materials to stay away from etc…

I used Scott’s for camping this summer if I remember right he was asking 22K. This is an awesome unit. Everything a person would ever need, in a fishhouse anyway.

I wish I had the $$$$$$$$$$$ for that. I think that its a little out of the FW’s budget.

Ice Castle has some great deals on the shacks that they have IN STOCK. if they have to make it for you expect to pay lots more, my friend got a 6.5 x 14 with cook-top, dinette, upper bunk, diamond plate on the front and lots of extras last fall for $3600 or $3800. it was not his first choice of color but for the price who cares…

one more thing if you get one with a cable lift and lower system, get a kit to repair the cables yourself, and keep it in the shack, its not a question of if its going to break its when
