Where to fish at?Above the dam or up in park area?ICE JOHN FISH ON
Hey Ice John
I’m not sure where central city is or what body of water you’re refering to? Can you be more specific? I’m sure it will help others reply with some helpful info.
Thanks much!
Hi Ice John!
If your asking about Central City in IA., try this link to a post by Gianni. He was there several days ago. I haven’t been there my self this year….B

Ice John, I doubt there’s safe ice anywhere in the main river, even above the dam. I was fishing after the cold snap a couple weeks ago in the park and there was 3″ max in the park, with lots of open water in the main channel. I’m guessing that the warm days on the shallow sections have really brought the warm water flowing underneath that ice.
I hit MacBride this morning for about two hours, nothing. Nobody having any luck, but bright sunshine and only 3″ of crystal clear ice can do wonders in shutting down the bite.
Gianni,Thanks for infor. mother in law in Ryan, Ia.Though I would go down there while wife sees mom.How about by Manchester? ICE JOHN FISH ON
Boy, I haven’t been up ’round Manchester at all. Very possible that there’s ice on Delhi, although you’d have to watch out for current areas. I know that lake usually gets a lot better ice than most places becuase it’s protected from the wind and cold air settles down in that little valley.
Depending how far you want to drive, MacBride had safe ice in the shaded bays yesterday. It’s probably around a 40 minute drive from Ryan though (13 south, 30 west, C-street exit and Ely road, take a right when the road T’s North of the park). Palo would be a little closer, and had about 5″ last week but I haven’t been out there this week at all. The lake has no shade there, so it might be iffy, but at least there they’ve sunk trees right under the end of the handicapped dock so you could sit on that pier and drill over the rail and probably at least be fishing in good cover. That’s what I was going to do yesterday but my 9-year-old daughter insisted that MacBride was the place to be so we went there instead.
There’s a little backwater on the Cedar right under the second bridge East of Palo that’s also pretty good for gills and a handful of crappies. Don’t know whether that little hotspot would be safe still or not, but if there’s safe ice anywhere, that might be it.
If you decide to check out Delhi, let me know. There’s a lot of people ’round here that claim there’s a good crappie bite up there in the spring but I remain skeptical.
Most of all, be safe and good luck out there.
