Ya know, I just purchased one tonight on that Reeds $299 special… I’ve had a Vexliar FL-20 now for a couple years and like it a lot. Has any one had any issues with the LX-5 in any aspect? Or if you have any tips on this unit it would be appreciated. Lastly, if any one of you guys think I should leave it new in the box and sell it next season because, the FL-20 rules!… I’m all ears at this point!

The FL-20 is a nice unit but try the LX-5, run them side by side, use all of the features, and then decide what unit you would like to hold on to. My bet is, if you give the LX-5 a fair shot, you will be looking for a buyer for your FL-20. JMHO
March 17, 2009 at 2:09 am #759297You got one heck of a deal. I would run them side by side and make up your own mind though. Feature for feauture, the LX5 wins for me. I just upgraded this winter(at a much higher price might I add). However, you may like your 20 better. It’s a very nice unit.
March 17, 2009 at 2:30 am #759304I just bought one tonight too, and have never even used one either. But I have done so much reading on them and came to realize they are much better units, and I have been fishing with an fl-18, which is a fine unit as well. Seems kind of ridiculous to buy one when i have never even tried one, but for that price I didnt even hesitate, almost bought 2.
March 17, 2009 at 3:17 am #759330I’m a little curious as to why they are discounted so heavily at the moment. Someone is taking a major loss on this deal. I heard this deal was run at the Sportshow too.
Although, I’m thinking of taking adavntage of the situation…
March 17, 2009 at 3:42 am #759342I would say that at $299.00 that is one heck of a deal, especially since Vexilar is for all intense purposes sold out for the year. Obviously Marcum must have overbuilt this year. It’s highly unlikely they will make the same mistake 2 years in a row and this could be a once in a lifetime price.

Yup, you need to sell that piece of junk,….I’ll even get rid of it for you for say,…….$300
March 17, 2009 at 2:45 pm #759418I just looked at the site and the only LX-5 I see if for $499.
The VX1 is $299.
March 17, 2009 at 2:56 pm #759424I agree with Matt, sell it. I’ll give you $301.
I bought one from Scott a couple of years ago and ran it side by side with a Vexilar FL-20. I’ll never use the Vexilar again. I’m keeping my Vexilar for my 2-year old son to use in a couple of years. I don’t want to spoil him with the LX-5!

Anyone ask if it is recondition? I also just ordered one but never asked. I dont know why I need 2 lx-5 but hey you never now. For that price I think I might go the He-l.March 18, 2009 at 2:06 am #759672I purchased 2 LX-5’s from the show. My intent was to sell one and keep 1. I been wanting one for several years and have been getting by with a FL-8. I was thinking keeping the FL-8 as a spare incase a buddy needed one.
After using a LX-5 last weekend for the first time I was blown away so much that I am thinking very seriously of keeping the second LX-5 as a spare and selling the FL-8 next season.
There is no comparison btw the units.
Now I realize you are comparing to a FL-20.
I would compare to a Humminbird Ice 55.I am not trying to start a war. I really did not expect to be this impressed. WOW!!!
March 20, 2009 at 5:20 am #760617Got mine today too. I’m pretty darn impressed with that…. only took 3 days. And there is even some ice left to try it on, but gotta work and go to class
March 21, 2009 at 5:19 am #760985I ordered mine on Tuesday, and after a mix up with my debit card, they ran it through either late Wednesday or early Thursday morning, and it was delivered this afternoon. Vety impressed!!
March 23, 2009 at 2:05 pm #761452Thanks to everyone that posted this great deal and alerted me to the huge savings. I ordered mine on Friday.
Does anyone want to buy an FL-8SE Genz pack. I have one for sale. Ha Ha.
March 23, 2009 at 5:17 pm #761564Missed the Fed-Ex guy myself. Called to talk to someone and they are only open Tuesday-Saturday.

These are brand new units. Due to overstock were providing a great value to our loyal and new customers. Reeds has been doing a fine job getting these out to consumers quick. Call the 800-346-0019 and ask for Jeff. Have your credit card at the ready when you call, there about gone..
