Ice Fisherman Shot

Rob Johnson and Monte Post were ice fishing near the Klondike Bridge on the Iowa-South Dakota border.

Rob was shot late Wednesday afternoon while there.

Rob said, “All of a sudden, you hear one gunshot and hear it slap the shack and the next thing you know it felt like my whole hip was on fire.”

Monte said, “rob went to the ground. I didn’t know what was going on. He was screaming.”

Monte had to leave Rob and head up the road where he could get cell phone service. While calling 911, Monte saw some vehicles leave.

Rob ended up at Avera-McKennan where a scan revealed the bullet was lodged in his leg. Doctors tell him that it is safer to leave the bullet in his leg rather than remove it. Rob feels lucky because the bullet only narrowly missed a major artery.

Authorities are looking for a red Jeep Cherokee with South Dakota plates and a smaller, green car.

Rob said, “What they did was wrong and they need to be punished for it.” He knows the shooters are still out there and is anxious for justice to be served.

Same thought….but I was thinking of hanging him by an area that “stretched” a bit more

Not that it makes much deference…but I would like to know if it was just a random shooting, a you’re fishing MY spot shooting or “let’s use that fishhouse for a target” type of shooting.

Certainly hope they catch them!

That is unreal!!! Those guys are darned lucky to be alive!!!

Was the fire returned? I know if I was out fishing with my buddies and that happened it would sound like the Alamo out there.

And then Kooty would beat up any survivors. One at a time.

Chris, you and your buddies packin heat while you are ice fishing? If so, I am impresssed.

The whole story of what happened to those guys is insane.

Lyon County Sheriff Blythe Bloemendaal tells KSFY that a 15 year old boy has turned himself in for the shooting of a man in an ice shack on Wednesday.

15 Year Old Shooter Faces Felony

Bloemendaal says that the boy admitted to firing a shot with the .22 caliber rifle.

Rob Johnson, the victim of the shooting, told us he was shot near the hip and that the bullet will have to remain in his leg as doctors say it is too dangerous to remove.

He and his friend were fishing near the Iowa-South Dakota border when they heard several gunshots, one of which pierced their tent and struck Rob.

Sheriff Bloemendaal has also told KSFY that they know six teenage boys were involved in the incident, and that four of the boys have been questioned. Names and charges will be released after all the interviews have been completed.

The Sheriff said that they are getting a clearer picture of what the boys were doing, and that, “they were in that area shooting .22 rifles at bottles, cans, etc. This particular 15 year old shot into the ice shack.”

Yes, the Mich’s are a beautiful color this time of year. And for you all you smart We fished from 6:30AM to 7:30PM everyday, never leaving the ice unless moving to another lake.

I hope these kids were not intentionally shooting at an ice shack. If so, we have a some kids who need some serious help.
