I hit up the lake last night for a quick bite after school. I’ve been kind of off lately with fishing both with ambition to stay mobile and ability to catch good fish. Yesterday I felt like I was finally in my zone. I guess having a million open holes to fish and the first fish of the day being a 13″ crappie helped to re-vamp my ambition. My hook ups were good, hole hopping was very successful, the only thing lacking was size, as it has been that way for me all year out there (the times I’ve ventured up there). I caught tons of fish but most were just too small in the 5-6″ range. I did catch a few 7″ers with the biggest being about 7-1/2″ and I kept those along with the crappie to give to my uncle who recently survived a heart attack and currently has an empty freezer! It turned out to be a fun way to spend the afternoon, and I’m looking forward to getting a little more in-depth with the bite out there this weekend. The ice is still around 24-26″ thick in most spots but shore access is a tricky situation. I drove out from the sailboat club and came off at schaefers. Watch the pressure ridges just north of schaefers, the big one in particular could easily eat a vehicle if not crossed in the right spot. I will say that getting on/off at the sailboat club is much better than schaefers.

My uncle is doing well, After the attack he has been exercising and eating healthier. He has already lost 28 lbs in about two weeks! I expect the ice conditions to improve as we see some more average overnight lows..hopefully we can get a couple nights in the low teens while this snow is completely gone, that will help. My biggest concern right now is the shoreline access..once you’re on It’s thick enough for a semi The good news is that shoreline ice tends to freeze back up just as quick as it melts, and theres only about 5″ of water where it’s actually open on the shoreline. It’s too bad that 2 people had to put their vehicles through the ice out there, They were off the beaten path, but it creates this attitude now that anyone who is out there with their vehicle is an “idiot” after what happened..
