Just got back from our annual Leech Lake, Walker, Mn, trip. Lots of snow on the ice made it impossible to get very far out onto the lake. We didn’t get our possession limit but did catch fish. Lots and lots of small fish. I only kept 18 in 2 1/2 days of fishing. Two were 12 inchers. I also had to release a 24 inch walleye and had one small northern. IT was a great trip because we have a great group but it was hard fishing. Still better than working.

Were the perch you kept full of parasites or where they pretty clean? I quit fishing Leech for Perch many years ago because that white parasite grub was so bad in the perch.

Well actually the resort cleans the fish for us but before we’ve fried them I haven’t noticed any. And we ate 60 the first day and they looked ok. I’m familiar with what you’re talking about so I’ll inspect the ones I brought home. As far as the pout we caught two.

Back in the 60s and 70s we ate everything, bass whatever, we lived from pay day to pay day and meat on the table was important. I never filletted any fish and then when I started to fillet bass, in California at the time, I found those little buggers. Yeah they won’t hurt you if you cook them but I filleted everything after that. Lots of gills around here with those little monsters in them.
