Today at 3:44 I was at the access by Haskels at Excelsior Bay on Minnetonka. The rain made the access seem as if you were driving into open water. I could only stay for an hour or 2 so I packed very light. I drilled right outside of my truck door and used the Dodge as a shack. I dug that. The first few spots in 14-22 feet I saw only Perch. Got a few to take a crappie minnow head and some hit waxies. I was using a tiny red glow Bro Bug. I tried the Buckshot, Pimple yada yada. Drove to 18-24 feet near the shore, dropped the camera, saw some decent Perch. At 4:50 I saw a Walleye come blazing through to my jig. Without any hesitation he took it. 14″. He ate a crappie minnow head on the Bro Bug. I have tried to avoid that lake since it has been boring and slow most of the time. This was so unexpected and that is what made it fun. I MAYBE could come back.

Its actually kind of amazing how many walleyes are in the lake. I’ve seen schools of 100+ walleyes tucked on a weedline while looking for bass with a camara. I’ve also watched the DNR pull thier test nets in late may and june full of walleyes. The problem is catching those little buggers!

    Nice catch Cash!
It is tough out there. With the amount of tiny perch in that lake you better bring your “A” game! Hard to compete with that kind of forage…
