My wife and I headed south this weekend to fish with a group of friends, this is a fairly new lake by Sigourney, Ia. The fishing was some of the best we’ve had this winter. The biggest gill my wife caught was 9 1/2″, my biggest gill was 9 3/4″. I also caught a 12″ crappie and a catfish that weighed 3.11 lbs. You couldn’t have asked for better weather!! The only time the tent was used was when mother nature called for my wife. We are definitely going to be going back there next winter. The only picture we took was of my catfish with my cell phone, so this ones for you Brian!!

Congrats Ed. Sounds like a great day on the ice. Nice looking cat. Spent today putting sleds on the trailer before all the snow is gone.

Nice fish! there are some magnum gills in that lake. It’s a super fun lake to fish with all the flooded timber.

Think I seen you out there Friday evening, if you were in the group with all the 4 wheelers. Buddy was commenting on your bibs, that they were the good kind. What ever was on the grill sure smelled good, thought about coming over to buy some off ya.

I was one of the 3 younger guys that worked around your group, had the bad sounding auger. Congrats on the fish, sounded like you guys had fun.

Were you the guys with the auger that sounded like a chain saw? You should have stopped over and said hi , we had marinated goose breast on the grill and some beverages to go with them. How did you guys do out there?

Ya that was us with the chainsaw . When we got down wind, we were seriously talking about coming over. The other guy was digging in his wallet, my buddy who is a bottomless pit started looking at me funny . Ya had my saliva flowing, we thought it was chicken, we settled for Casey’s pizza. What did you marinate the goose in?

I think we keep 6 gills. I also caught some crappie and a bass, slower from last week there. We spent most the day on some farm ponds that were going pretty good in the morning.

I am heading to some farm ponds in Wayne Co, IA. How thick was the ice up in Sigourney? It’s a ways north, but it’ll give me an idea.

Thanks! I’ll be sure to pack my waders in my truck. I hope this rain doens’t end the season, maybe the cold week ahead will hold spring off….?

We were down below and west of Ottumwa Friday and there was around 8-10″ on the ponds we fished but by 10:00 there was also an 1″ of water on top. Might call a CO down there to find out if it would be safe before you go. I know I would not go out on it right now. Just a heads up.

I was afraid of that. I’m not going down ’till sunday morning, so maybe this little cold snap will make things more solid, that’s my hope anyway. Thanks for the updates.
