I know it’s still well below zero in some places of the midwest, but is there any formula/rate for determining how long it takes 12″ of ice to melt? With the ice as thick as it is, is it possible we could have ice into March? (in Eastern Iowa)I hope so!

Too many factors like wind, rain and air temps
all you can do is hope that it stays cold

Yep, way too many factors. I’ve seen 10 inches of ice come off a lake in just 2 or so days here in Nebraska. We’re forecasted to be in the 50’s and 60’s for several days this week and I’m betting a lot of our lakes will be done.

the next week isn’t looking good for the ice here, 40-50 for the next 7 days.

Or in Ron W and Matt Grow’s case: for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
