a friend of mine just bought a 10″ SM laser mag from fleet farm and he was showing me how he can cut through the holes fast.

well needless to say, i drilled 3 holes with my 8″ chipper before he finished his first hole.. i know i should cut faster cuz i have a smaller auger, but i shouldnt be able to cut 3 holes to 1.

i took a look to see if he was doing something wrong, and he was practically sitting on his auger to get it to bite. i have never put any weight on mine to get it to chew through ice. his blades were brand new and seemed sharp, so i didnt think that they were bad, but could they be out of alignment? i dont know much about the laser blades, is their cutting angle really touchy?

i hope no one has this experience, but can anyone give me some hints on what to try to help him fix his auger? (before we have to run down to lake city)

Did he try and tighten the bolts on the blades before cutting. I was able to tighten mine some more. His blades may have come out of alignment just enough to cause the problem. My 8″ does it all by itself. If he gives Strikemaster a call he will get it solved that I am sure of.

it sounds like the alignment is off,
with the laser you dont need to push at all, just the weight of the auger is enough.
also check to see if the blades are tight, and that nothing is under the blades

appreciate the quick replies guys, ill take a driver to that blade. i just figured that out of the box, it would be ready to cut. but then again, something could’ve gotten jostled around in transit.

    thanks!
