Which charger comes with the package? The Marcum site makes it sound like it is just an alligator style “dumb” charger. If this is true, could a guy switch to the DCS like used on the LX-5 or do they charge at different rates? I would prefer a charging system that I won’t have to keep track of time to use. Thanks

Yep, standard charger in the VS380, and yes, you could certainly upgrade to the DCS.

I think a battery status indicator, of any type, size, shape, or model is an improvement to the alligator clips. Preventing overcharge is a big deal in trying to preserve the overall life of your battery, and the DCS does a phenomenal job at this.

You can certainly switch to a DCS charger, I put one on my aqua vu years ago, money well spent, I’ve seen them for sale at fleet farm and Gander but I’m not sure how easy they are to find at times , $30 iirc.

I was kind of baffled at why MarCum didn’t put the DCS charger on their cameras Including the 820-825 models. I found the charging system on the LX flashers to be one of the selling points.

You can always swipe the DCS off your buddies Flasher! Don’t try and steal Bigfife’s cause it’s already on my camera

I’m going to guess at the thought process…it’s about keeping the costs down.

Although once a person buys one…it doesn’t seem like another $20 or $30 would make that much difference. But when the money is still in the pocket $699. sounds much better than $729!

I haven’t looked at a charger for a 380. The 820 and 825 both have a charge indicator on the charger itself. Not a digital display, but it hasn’t failed me yet.
