Nasty freeze in problem

The girlfreind and I went to the cabin a couple of weeks ago for a week of ice fishing. Brought all the gear and got ready for a long haul out to our favorite spot. We are pretty much the only people that use our lake in the winter, and there was too much snow and slush to use a 4 wheeler or even to drive out. Trucked all of our gear (roughly 150 lbs) about a mile to our spot. Thougt I was going to have a heart attack, but got there. Banked everything up so I could leave it out for the week. After 5 days of great fishing, I found out that everything was so froze in that I couldn’t get the thing out without damaging the house, so I left it out there. No problem, I’ll be back in a week, I’ll deal with it then. Got back up on Sat. morning. Went out, figured I’d fish a couple of hours, then dig out the house. Got out, started digging, but couldn’t get her to budge. Decided to fish for a while instead. Started drilling holes, and about 4 inches of water shot up and flooded the house. Got cold, late, and ran out of gas for the lantern so I had to leave it there again overnight. She’s really in there now. But on the plus side, The crappies were HOT this weekend. Iced lots of nice fish, including a few 12 inch+ specs, a 4 lb largemouth, and a few nice gills. Guess I’ll just have to go back this weekend and try digging out again. May as well wet a line while I’m there.

I gotta believe you could get it out with a heater going full tilt, (dual burner sunflower/big buddy heater) and a ice chisel. Amazing how good aa chisel works, fleet farm $20 or so.

Doesnt sound too good….But I agree with others…A good heater going full bore in there for a while and a good chisel should help to solve your problem….

    Good Luck

I actually had my sunflower heater going in there and did try chiseling out, but broke the chisel. It’s a breifcase style with a black floor, so I think on a warm day if I can get the ice out of the inside and take off the canvas the sun might warm the floor enough to pop it out. If that fails, I’m going to try the torch idea.

    Got a .44?
Seriously, turn up your heat for a day or two as high as possible. Then when you think it’s warmed enough, pull all the banking away from the house. Now tighten your cables with your winches as tight as they will go without breaking anything. First try hammering on the frame with a BFH(big f-ing hammer). If that doesn’t work, keep the cables taught, and then use a gun to shoot hole around the perimeter of the frame. If you don’t have a handgun, a slug gun would work. I have had to do this before, sucks but it works.

Oh shoot, if it a portable, just use a propane torch, chisel, and shovel. Why would you leave a portable on the ice anyway?
