Just seen some LX-5 on sale for $450 is that a good price or is that still a little high?
One more thing has anyone used this flasher on there boat? I see they have a skimmer and a puck transducer you can get.
Any feed back would be appreciated.

Yes, that is a good price.
I do know a few guys that do use them for open water fishing. The only down fall for me is that there is not a universal sonar adapter to use with my Minnkota. Otherwise I would have used it in the boat. I didn’t want to mess with running cables around the TM.

eyetroller….Marcum does make a summer transducer that can attach to your trolling motor. I have ran my LX-3 on the bow for about 4 yrs now..
One other thing I just thought of is will the LX-5 interfere with my graph unit witch is a eagle 640c if I pot it on my boat?

I was thinking about using it, but I didn’t like the way I was going to have to run the wiring with my Minnkota PD. I just knew that it was going to be sooner rather than later when it came to snapping the wiring.
Thanks for mentioning it though.

I would think that it would depend on how close the transducers are mounted. Buy yes, there is a distinct possibility of that.

I run my lx-5 up front and love it.Ive never had an interference issue yet, but the puck is on my trolling motor. You might have problems if you mount it in the rear next to your other transducer.

I’ve run my LX-5 on the bow for 2 years now and love it also. Esp. if you’re vertical jigging, you get the real-time response that you’re used to for ice fishing. Another application it works very well for is finding a weedline. More often, the bass and even some walleye guys are running the boat from the bow anyway when they’re trying to work a weedline. No waiting for the graph to scroll and display weeds or not. With the flasher, you’re either in them, or you’re not, which makes finding that crucial edge far easier.
As for interference, you shouldn’t have too many problems for most applications, mounted on most boats, in most lakes. Where you’ll get into problems is with a shorter boat (ducers closer together) or over deep water (greater chance of reading other units return signal), esp. in hard-bottom conditions (multiple returns and noise).
To be honest, you’re flasher screen won’t have any problems for the most part. Your open water graph will be the one that has some interference, but mostly just in the conditions listed above.

Where do you get the summer transducers at? Would sportsmens or gander carry that?
I’ve typically had difficulties in getting accessories like these from the larger stores, although I did see them at Sportsman’s last year. Thorne Bros. usually has that stuff in-stock, and if they don’t, they’ll order/ship it for you:

I ran MarCum flashers on my bow for 9 years using the trolling motor trasducer provided by MarCum and the interfernce on my Lowrance units in the back was terrible. When I changed graphs to Humminbird, it was much better and I could get them to tolerate each other. To say there is no interference between rear graphs and a front flasher would be misleading. I thought it was terrible even on a 20ft boat while running Lowrance, much worse in rivers or hard bottoms.
However, having a flasher on the front of your boat is great. As Joel said, really nice for verticle jigging or mid summer panfish. Todays graphs are getting much better and where their processor delay is so minimal it is almost real time if you know how to adjust them. The last two years I have not run a flasher anymore on my bow, just a graph. I didnt’ think I would ever see that day. I am a real flasher guy

Good observations Scott. I ran a Lowrance LCX-27 on the console and LX-5 in the bow many times in the past two years with little problem. I run this on my 18′ ProV, most recently on a fall crappie trip where I used the LX-5 in the bow, and my buddy used the Lowrance in flasher mode out the back of the boat. We were both able to fish “ice-style” for suspended crappies in 35FOW or so with only some interference. Granted, it took the shallow water mode upgrade to my LCX, and some adjustment of ping and sensitivity to have them work well.
No experience with the Hbird open water units, though I’ll have a 997si on the console this spring. Good to hear that the Marcum and the Bird will play nice for open water at least.

I’ve ran the LX-5 on bow of my boat for three years and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love the flasher for locating deep weeds and baitfish, primarily.
My LCD graphs were not detecting the small baitfish hovering over the weeds close to the bottom on a tournament last year, but the LX-5 did. It made a huge difference to put fish in the boat! In fact, I had other tourney guys ask me what the MarCum was showing as they were not sure what their graphs were telling them. They thought it was plain weeds, when in fact it was pods of small baitfish and the walleyes were chasing.
I run a dinosaur LMS-350A on the bow and LCX-25C on the console(rear). The 25C picks up the most interference primarily from the 350A. The 350A doesn’t have any problems with the LX-5 and the ducers are much closer to one another. I have to hit the IR on the LX-5 once, and it’s clear as a bell.
