Let’s say you are heading up to a lake you usually fish once a year, and that is during open water. However you are getting away for a weekend and going this weekend. The weather for the 1 full day you are going to be fishing the hi is looking like it’s going to be 1 with a windchill in the sub teens.

On a side note, I have no problem with the cold, However I am thinking the fishing may be S-L-O-W!

If I decided to not fish when I had an oportunity but had second doubts about something, I would never get out. My thougths are fish when you can fish.

Down a couple of cold ones before you go (and during), it won’t feel so cold after that!

I thought that’s why we have shacks and booze. Either way your going to catch a buzz. The fish are only a bonus.

Alright all valid points… Coffee on the drive to the lake and Bloody Mary in the morning, and by noon we should be onto beer, and Jack. Maybe I’ll even see a fish too.
This is actually the 1st time I have atually ever considered talking my self out of fishing. (BAD IDEA) Fished many a subzero day with no heater and have always had a good time not sure what I was thinking just now. Thanks guys!

Note to self when ever you want the answer you want to hear aboutfishing just ask fishermen.

Do the fish quit biting when it gets cold out? Where does this happen? They might slow and not be as aggresive but if you watched the video of James and Chris on Rainy I think James said it was like -24 air temperature and they put the hammer down on some HUGE walleye thru the ice.

Just because the temps are cold doesnt mean the fish quit biting it just means you have to adjust your presentation accordingly

I’ve caught some of my biggest walleye thru the ice on Mille Lacs in temps that were well below -0 with some -20 to -30 wind chills BRRR but fun

If the Mrs is giving you the OK to fish, you fish. If it was open water season, raining, and chilly…put on the slicker, finish your beer before it fills with rain water, and get out there!

Unless it’s your anniversary weekend of course.

It might be cold outside, but remember the water temperature in the winter is static. The fish will likely react to the changes in pressure, but I’ve found a great bite right after a major cold front more than one occasion. Just the same as I’ve found a terrible bite right after a warm front. Get out there man, I fished Thursday and Friday last week with lows 21 and 26 below zero, and both days I had a decent gill bite going
