I went to a body of water in the duluth area this past sunday where i have been getting a few walleyes, nothing over 24 inches tho. I was on the water by 645 and set up and fishing by 7. The mornings have been better than the evenings lately.
By 8 i had marked only one fish on the vexilar but since it was so cloudy i figured it may have been a late morning bite. then at 815 i had a fish come up to my bait then sit there for a minute or so, i raised my buckshot with a minnow head up 2 feet and i felt 2 light taps. I set the hook and the pole bent and the drag starting going out.I knew i had a decent fish. 3 runs and 4 minutes later i had this 30 inch 11.2 pound walleye on the ice. I didnt think it was that big when i was fighting it. It had a 17.5 inch girth. I finally got a 30 incher, i would never have guessed it woulda came thru the ice. That was the only one i got all morning, but im not complaning.
