I hope Huminbird gets these things figured out.

I work for Fleet Farm and I have seen more than my share of these new bird units returned or exchanged.

Hopefully next year these issues will be resolved to eliminate customers problems.

The problems I have seen are:

    1. I can’t seem to pick up my jig even when the gain is on a higher setting.

    2. No Display at all on the screen, even with a fully charged battery.

    3. Missing parts. There is quite a bit of assembly on these units. I have had some returned because of issues with assembly of the loose parts and some have had parts missing.

All of these instances were resolved at the store level and no further action is needed.
My hope is that all of these problems are resolved before next ice season is here.

I bought a ice 55 last week. I used it from friday to tuesday. It was great with the digital depth, the large read out, and the 6 color feature. But it really bothered me when the bottom started creeping and then the digital readout wouldn’t work. it started to read at 1.2ft instead of the actual depth. these were two different problems.

So I don’t know if I should just return it or send it back to get fixed.

    any suggestions?

This sounds similar to the issue cited earlier in the thread. That would be a motor timing issue… and it isn’t the type of issue that is going to fix itself. Either take it back to the store for a swap out or give [email protected] a shout for a fix.

Try changing the scale you are using from A-Auto to 1,2,3, etc. The Auto mode is great for setting your scale and bottom but if you leave your flasher in A the unit continues to auto locate the bottom. Use the Auto feature when you are fishing areas that the depth changes often but other than that use the Auto to find the bottom and set your scale and then change to to the scale you want. If you do this you will never have problem with the bottom creeping up.

The unit is working fine, you are just fishing in a mode that is not the best option for you.

Assuming that motor tick was a big problem and because I never sent it in to be fixed and just dealt with it jumping… It burned my motor out completely… Cuz now it just beeps when I turn on and won’t even engage the motor at all… That “hum” has become silent and no color appears… Is it toast… Had for 3 winters now and pretty bummed to be honest cuz I loved this unit lol…
