Don’t want to start any crap….. but I have a showdown and I love the hell out of it. I’ve heard alot of negative feedback. You can’t beat the price. The marcum is $500.00 bucks, not eveyone host’s a fishing show like James Holts and given one. I think everybody should take a page from the In-fishermans editor in chief, Doug Stange and have an open mind to try new products.

Once Al left that show wasn’t worth a darn. As for the showdown there no comparison to a real flasher. No color. Bad design. And IF will promote anything if the $$ is right. You bought it hook, line and sinker.

Sheeze! Talk about throwing down the gauntlet!! Just so we are clear here, IDO Staff who choose to use Marcum products pay for their own. We can buy anything we choose. No one is saying your Showdown is inferior to anything. But when comparing it to like units, comparrisons will be made pro and con. You can choose to impress us with your findings just as anyone here can do with Marcum or Vexilar. Your tone and banter and comments about James are unfounded.

Ever notice how when someone shows up and says “I don’t want to start anything” they almost always are?!

I’m not sure what else to say… I’m glad you like your showdown.

Anything else? You catching any fish? See any good movies lately?

Speaking of movies and in an effort to add some actual value to this thread… the last two I’ve seen, Slum Dog Millionaire (two weeks ago) and Gran Torino (tonight) were incredible. Check them out if you have the chance.

I have a really (REALLY-REALLY) thick skin guys. No need to worry about me.

I’m sure the original poster will be back with a thoughtful followup on the pros and cons of the two units so hang tight before passing judgement. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I’m always interested in hearing member’s opinions on the products they choose to spend their money on. I for one am sincerely interested in what he has to share with us.

Oh, he just wants to get a rise. Likely doesn’t even own a Showdown.

But please, in the future…spell Mr. Holst’s name correctly when you rip on him.

Ps James? Have you seen the Frost/Nixon movie yet? Is it out?

Because of the spelling, I thought it was you posting under another name to be funny.

    Okay James,

We shall be waiting diligently for his follow up and the comparisons that he boast about. I too am also interested in valuable insight to products.

Feel free to omit my first response if you feel i was too harsh on the little guy.

Yup, that one’s out. Cheryl and I saw Gran Torino tonight and we saw the bill boards for Frost. I can’t even begin to tell you how good Gran Torino was. Definitely worth the $9 / pop for admission. Eastwood was spot on with his character and the story was incredible. The big surprise was the movie was actually incredibly humorous too despite the fact that the ending was emotional to a point of almost being overwhelming.

When a theatre rises up with applause at the end of the show in MN, given how reserved all us “Minnesota Nice” folks can be… it was a good show!

I completely understand. And there’s nothing wrong with your post. I’ve always told people that the IDO mods don’t have to do much to keep this forum running smoothly as the members do a great job of keeping things on track. And the way I see it that’s all you were trying to do.

Again, this is not a personal attack, so please don’t take it that way…but in seeing your post here you have admitted you have not used this technology before. Many of us here have used a wide variety of electronics on both hard and soft water on rivers and on lakes. It does not make us “Know it alls” but it does help in conveying comparable views on the different units out there. That is what you hear on IDO.

Come on! Don’t be so hard on him. I didn’t ask for a complete review of those movies.

    hahahahaha
Honestly why would you even post something like this on this site? Especially when dang near everyone on this site will back marcum up over ny other units out there. You can use what ever unit you want when it comes down to it, as long as you catch fish, Rite? at least that what i thought. may be wrong…. Use what ever you are happy with, dont matter if its a string with a rock on it, like i said long as you catch fish. dont see why you would come on a site n bash someone… must just be jealous???? idk

I paid $229 for my MarCum LX2 brand new in the box at Cabelas. I know the LX5’s are $500, but not all MarCums are. I thought about getting the Showdown when I got my MarCum, but decided the MarCum was just the better unit for MY tastes. Besides, I love hitting the IR button in the house and making my dads Vex FL18 go loony.

Interesting. It always puts a huge smile on my face to watch the big ones swim away to fight another day, whether it be my catch or or that of another angler.

And I have to agree. Great show this morning. Nice job by both James and Chris. It was entertaining and informative, with a touch of Holst humor mixed in.

I’ll have to agree with you Wade, 110%. I really enjoy the fact that many people on this site feel the same way regarding CPR

    Great show James and Chris

I am all for catch and release guys. I am also all for catch and chow down. I know that walleye was actually a little past prime eating size, but still.

I worked with a kid that spent almost all his paycheck on video games last year. I told him I couldn’t beleive he spent all that money on games. Someone else standing there said well you spend a ton of money on fishing gear. I got a little smile and told him I put food on the table with what I spend my money on, can’t eat a video game

My preferred eating size for walleyes is 15″ – 16″ and I never keep anything over 20″. Each to their own.

I like to eat fish too, but with the money I spend on fishing in a year I could feed my family for a lifetime. It’s not economical to fish for food. It is a treat to eat what you catch once in a while, though. I’m with James. I prefer walleye in the 15 – 18 inch range for the pan, and let the larger fish go. As the fish get larger they are much, much more likely to be females.

I love to see and hear from all the members who practice selective harvest and I’m very happy to see it promoted on the IDO TV show.

    Ahhhh Selective harvest!!!

I keep 15-25 fish a year!(for the table) Many of those are 10 inch crappies from a lake near my mother for her Birthday every year. I enjoy fishing and always love to see fish swim away!

I keep a select few Shorthead and Silver Redhorse and mooneye for cutbait. I fish nearly 100 days a year and keep an average of less than 1 fish per 2 trips fishing.

    Aaron
