Can someone point me to the info that states you have to have your name/address info on any shack, at all times.
I can only find this info:
right out of the rule book:
Shelters
The following regulations apply to fish houses, dark houses, and
portable shelters used on all Minnesota waters, unless otherwise noted
elsewhere in this booklet.
• All shelters, which include dark houses, fish houses, and portable
shelters, placed on the ice of Minnesota waters must have either the
(
1)complete name and address, (2)driver’s license number, or (3)the
nine-digit Minnesota DNR number on the license of the owner plainly
and legibly displayed on the outside in letters, and figures at least 2
inches in height. Dark houses, fish houses, and portable shelters placed
on the ice for shelter while fishing do not need new
a license unless
the house will be left unattended overnight.
No, not yet… Just another stupid rule MN has.
I just remember reading a post the other day stating this needed to be done. I wanted to clarify before going to the effort of making something with my info that is weather proof.
In an attended portable you need your Name&address or DL #. But no license.
I see too many guys with nothing
I was on the ice last Sunday that way. Although I didn’t setup my shack. I was also driving with expired tabs. Apparently you have to renew them once a year.

I’m guilty of that. I need to come up with something that can be moved from house to house, waterproof and durable before I have a run-in with the man.

Print it out and put it in a one gallon Ziploc bag. Then insert it into the slot on your house.
Unless you’re really trying to look fancy.
You know me. I’m all about fancy.
Actually was just thinking something slightly more durable. I thought you and the girl were going fishing today??

I’ve got some extra carbon fiber mesh and resin here at the shop if youd like.
We’re going on tour leaving tonight.
I used one of those thin metal “for sale” signs and put 2″ mailbox numbers on it. I also used my DNR#, it is a little shorter than a DL number, so it fit on the sign. When I get my house set up it slides right into the front window.

That might be a little more than I was looking for. 2″ adhesive letters on a rigid backing of some sort should cover me.
I think I’ll just call Clam and ask them to make me a custom cover and replace my current one.
BTW, a 72 point font is not 2″ tall. I’ll take my chances.
their 2 inch rule is funny. In my Clam Jr. I tried doing 2″ lettering and couldn’t fit it all So I just went down to a size that would fit. I have since had a CO or 2 visit my shack and never said a word.
Besides when was the last a fisherman was able to give an accurate measurement? I know some fisherman who would claim 5″ to be about 10-13″ It just depends on how they want to tell the story.
Kooty I was just in your are last week if my calculations are correct you should have posted this a week ago I could have had you hooked up.

Please don’t tell my wife that.
Oh she already knows Kooty! She’s just letting you pad your ego….
Jami
I first put my license number on the sled of my house, but those fell off over the course of a couple trips. Now I have them spray painted on the sled. I was checked last year and the CO said it was a good idea.
I just made one last week with a deer hunting back tag with my DNR number on a piece of paper in it. Have not attatched it yet, but I think it’s going to work!

Exactly what I did, except I put my MN Drivers License number on it.

Ran into that last year had the flip over but not using it as a shelter just a sled, and a warden was trying to give me a ticket for no name on it I made him call and check , and what do you know , no ticket
I got checked on Mille Lacs a couple years ago and we didn’t have the portable set up and I asked if he wanted me to flip it closed so he could see the license and # and he told me since I wasn’t using it as a shelter it was nothing more than a sled and as such didn’t need a license or info…..so good thing you just didn’t take the ticket.
Also…remember if you are using the driver’s licence # that the new ones have different #s on them. I still need to change mine to the new DL #.
JB
I’d use you 9 – Digit DNR #. That # should always stay the same. You Drivers license # will change every time you renew you license. After more than a year of fishing without anything on my portable I just added it this last weekend, It’s good that I did because we got checked by the DNR the 1st time I had the new # on my house.
Does this rule apply to people from Wisconsin fishing Minnesota waters?
yes it does. Kooty, do what I did. I was up at the cabin when I realized I had nothing on my brand new shack. I took 2 paper plates, made a nice pice of heavy paper, put my DNR # on in black magic marker, slid it in the sleeve on the back. This was temporary… 2 seasons ago… it’s still there..

I have an old Clam two man with out the pocket for license . What can I use without making a hole in the canvas ? Thanks
Don’t forget, if it is out after dark, you need at least 2 square inches of reflective material per side too
