just got in my marcum vx-1 pro from cabela’s the other night, and like a kid on christmas morning, i put her together and headed down to my 125 gallon fish tank. dropped the transducer in and turned it on to see only one mark at the 0 position. tried shooting the length too (6′) without any change. should i be conserned? it may be another week or so till i call get to some real water. should i hear any clicking from the transducer because i don’t.

You should hear clicking or pinging when you point the transducer around.

I don’t know a lot about flashers but I do know the VX-1 will read bottom. I would suggest you make sure the transducer is ticking. If it is, turn up the gain to 10 and try it again over a hard surface out of the water. Odds are your aquarium is not deep enough to show up on the screen.

Caution, you may drive your fish crazy in the tank as you will get a lot of reflection off the glass.

That’s what I would suggest too. Hold the ducer a few feet off the floor, and then raise and lower the ducer with the gain cranked up. You should see some moving returns on the dial.

This all assumes that you can feel ticking on the business end of the ducer. If you can’t feel or hear it ticking, and your connection between the head unit and the ducer is as tight as it shoud be, then it’s time to call MarCum and see what they say. I’ve had a ducer cord that was kinked just after the little metal grommet that screws into the back of the head unit. If the cable was wiggled the right way, then the ducer worked, but more often than not I got zip of the dial.

Check it out a little more and let us know how it’s going.

Got her figured out! called marcum but they’re back logged on calls and i didn’t care to leave a message, so i called cabela’s and was ready to return but wasn’t thrilled about the 2-3 week turn around. started boxing her back up an figured since it’s defective anyway i’d poke around a little first. first place i tried was the transducer connector. took apart and found three wires soldered to two places. black, red, and bare stranded. red went to one term and black and bare went to the other. noticed that two strands of the bare got soldered to the red. new that couldn’t be right so i cut them, plugged in and BINGO, she came alive. glad i don’t have to return now but Very dissapointed in the quality control side. this transducer should have never left the door that way. oh well, time to go fishing.
