Hit 3 spots today. Caught 2 fish. Tried everything known to mankind on the business end. Pulled marks okay but that was about it. Real case of lock jaw syndrome. Even treked 3/4 of mile through not quite knee deep snow to an old beaver den in a sliver chute off the main channel. Have caught my share of fish in there when the January blues set in but not today. Hope others faired a little better than I……

I hear you bret, managed only 4 keepers all day. caught alot of small fish but the bigguns were not willing. I tried about 15 differant things with little luck. I know the big fish are there but like you said lockjaw set in. It can only get better I hope. dan

ALL day, three different spots, marked two fish, caught nothing. On the flip side, it was a great day to be out, great company, fun watching eagles grab dying shad in the pools. Big moon tonight to boot!

Walleye slacked off today , too. Three keepers, I guess we probably caught about 20 dinks in the last three hours before dark..only one nice perch. Mostly jig fish, the live bait rigs and tip-ups were more of a nuisance than help. A couple of the guys out where you saw them the other day caught a small bunch of eater saugers…they were so leary of the ice thickness they spudded across, because they didn’t want to pull the sled out with the four wheeler, I think the next week plan should be a winner.

This makes feel a little better now. I fished a spot that has been producing nice sized gills for me all winter until the last week. I caught quite a few fish today but like everyone else I managed only three keepers in four hours of fishing. I didn’t move much but threw the whole tackle box at them in hopes of bigger fish. A sunburst colored Lil’ Cecil was my best bait along with a dark blue Demon jigging spoon.

Now I don’t feel so bad after yesterday. Bret and I found lots of dinks up by the dam until I left about 10:30 to do my “honey do” list so I can go again today. There should be a good year class coming up though of 9-12″ eyes and saugers because there are lots of them and they are healthy looking too – they’ve been eating well.

I was at the dam before light and after light and only iced two keeper fish out of at least 30 some caught…….that makes for a day and a half of fishing

Slept in this morning and now I feel rejuvenated and looking forward to the evening ice once again…see ya a little after noon Mike
