wondering if any of you fisherman have an explantion for me. If finding fish suspended over 20 ft of water, say 5 ft from bottom., you make a move to 15ft of water, will the fish be suspended 5 ft off or will they stay at 15ft, which now is the bottom? any ideas? thanks -John

From what I have experienced on pool 8 in my last few trips…..yes.

The suspended fish that have become my targets now are slipping off of weed growth/structure moving out of 3-8fow, dropping into 18-25fow. My StrikeMaster for some reason likes to start the first holes in 8fow making a line out to 20plus. By doing this, when the majority of the fish are using a certain portion of the water column you are able to move back and forth from the hump to the depths. It will not take long to figure out which fish are willing to feed, the 15fow near bottom or the 15 footers suspended

One other thing Wats and I both noticed last weekend, the fish were suspended almost by year class. Dink crappies at 15feet but nice specks 10 foot up….dink gills for me tight to bottom but bulls 4foot off making them chase it up.

There are a few reasons these fish move and suspend, sunlight, oxygen, thermal cline, but the main two in well fished areas are……pressure and pressure

Funny…I noticed this, too, even in the 4 fow I’ve been fishing. Small gills on the bottom…big gills just above them. I guess it doesn’t matter the depth..the fish will still suspend by size. And usually smallest on the bottom. It could have something to do also with the predator prey thing. It’s harder for the bigger predator to feed down. They usually feed up. And if the predator is smaller they won’t be able to eat the bigger prey so the bigger prey is not as concerned about the predator? Where as the smaller prey can hug and blend in with the bottom to hide from the predator? Who knows? Guess if I did I’d be making money fishing instead of spending it trying to figure them out.
