I was in Sportsman’s Warehouse yesterday and I saw a poster for a tournament they are sponsoring on Feb. 14th. It advertised for a prize purse of $150,000! I’ve read a few posts that seemed to have mixed information, so I decided to give them a call. I was connected to a representative for the tournament, if you have any question call the number 715-243-1262 . I was informed that all proceeds benefit the New Richmond Athletic department. I truly believe this tournament is going to be a great one! Here’s the scoop I just received. 25 tagged fish, 2 are worth a $30,000 vehicle prize package, the other 23 are worth $100 cash. They are paying out the top 50 fish with the grand prize for largest fish being a 2008 Polaris 300 sportsman ATV. The next 49 are augers, shacks, flashers, rod combos, binos, guided fishing packages, gift certificate, and the list went on. I was told that beyond the tagged fish they have prizes totalling over $90,000. They also have a deal where you can bring your significant other and get 2 holes for $30. Both of your tickets then go in a drawing for a 1/4 Carat diamond ring, free hotel rooms, and dinner and movie packages. They are having an early bird ticket sales drawing for an ice shack, Hummingbird ice 35, and a St. Croix combo. The drawing is on Jan 14th so your tickets have to be purchased before the 14th. They are also handing out post contest coupon books for each hole purchased, each worth $15 for free drinks specials at 6 local bars. That’s all I needed to hear!!

I always love when a lake gets pounded like that . Just do a raffle and be done with it.

I believe it is all catch and release. At least it is al least that. This came up when the word was put out before about this contest. It is what it is.

I am more worried about the people who kill fish for no reason other than they are not their desired fish!

I am thinking of joining this contest.

I just checked the site and it works on my computer. Try it again. I know for a fact that the contest is catch and release. I’m not sure the lake is going to get “pounded” by a 3 hour fishing contest.
I’ve been to these contest in the past and you’d be surprised on how many fish are not caught, regardless of the number of fisherman. I think it’s for a good cause, and the prize list is outstanding…I’ll be there!

Have you been out there lately? There is surely no shortage of people fishing out there. I am almost positive that a catch and release tournament IS NOT going to affect the fishing on Cedar Lake than what is already going on out there.

I was the first one on the ice out there on Cedar this season man it was nice the fish were constantly biting and I had the lake completely to myself well then I was noticed and one by one they came and brought noise and the fish quit biting really good . Now there is a mini empire of people out there and I am sure that on the weekends there is 2 times the amount of people out there.

Basically my point the contest WILL NOT harm this lake in any manner dont let it get you all up in a roar

I’m bad. I should have looked a little closer before getting upset. I did not realize it was catch and release. My only point is that these lakes are already getting pounded. Sorry.

Wow! Did someone break your jig sticks Outdoors and Outdoors4life? Your going to put down an entire tournament ment to raise funds for kids because the DQ put up some gift certificates? I’ve fished Brainerd for the last 5 years, outstanding tournament! However lets not forget they have been running that tournament for 19 years, and it’s ran by the entire community. I also like that the funds raised go to a local charity. In this tournament I can get 3 holes for $60, and if that $60 can help buy an underprivileged kid skates it’s worth every cent. I believe that helping kids is more important than me taking home another marcum camera, and I give credit to Sportsman’s for putting their reputation on the line to help these kids. I wish more corporate businesses would do this for kids. Lets not forget fellas we are outside doing what we love, and at the same time helping a worthy cause! Slamming a tournament like this is wrong. Some of us have more money in fishing equipment then these kids have ever seen.

Nobody broke my jig sticks but I did break one a couple days ago when a pesky sturgeon bit fishing crappies on the croix!

Seriously though I support this contest! I am not sure how it is interpreted the wrong way but I plan to fish it! I look forward to my DQ if I get it!

The kids are our future and I enjoy volunteering every year at the ARM event.

    See you out there Brian!

Let me introduce myself, I am Ryan the Fishing Manager at Sportsmans Warehouse in Woodbury.

First off I would like to say thank you all for your interest in the Cedar Lake Tournament. I would also like it to be known that unfortunately, I have not been involved much in helping with this tournament, so no credit here.

Kevin and Scott who are the regional fishing and gift bar managers (respectively) have been put in charge of HELPING New Richmond put this thing together. That being said, I also do not have all the answers for you guys, but I will tell you what I do know… It is for the kids.

I do not know what exactly the prize list is, but it grows everyday. I will let Kevin and Scott know that you are all excited to get a more exact prize list, and when they get you will get it. Keep in mind that there will be more prizes added probably right up the time of the tourny.

I will do my best to have everyone’s questions answered as soon has I can. And again I am sorry for not having the answers at my finger tips.

Ryno, thanks for not calling me names for asking questions like one of the administrators on here. I am not trying to stir the pot just curious. I am interested in bringing my kids to this event and was wondering if there is a kids division or special pricing and prizes for youngsters. Thanks in advance for any help.

Well put Ryno. I bought my tickets yesterday so I can be in the early bird drawing this Wednesday for an ice shack, vexy, and rod combo. One thing I really like about this tournament is the prize list. Every ice tournament I’ve been to all you can win is more ice fishing equipment. This tournament has a unique prize list outside of just fishing equipment. Not to mention I talked my wife into going fishing on valentines day! I’ll I had to do is show her the couple’s prizes on the website, the 1/4 carat diamond ring hooked her

It is my understanding that it will be limited to 1500 holes. I had heard something about a kids division but not sure what the details are. I will let you know.
