Does anyone have good success using berkley gulp maggots or waxies for ice fishing, do they work as good as the real thing, I’m looking for an artificial so i dont have to run to the store to get waxies all the time? What are your thoughts?

Check this post out in the Lake Menomin Forum

Jeremy Frigo put together a good write-up, some of which relates to power-baits. Also some of the reply’s might be helpful .

I don’t buy waxies anymore. Gulp waxies and other plastics work just as well for me…probably better as I can catch a dozen off the same gulp.

For me, not as good as the real thing. Mostly I think because the real thing moves and the gulp doesn’t. Personally I have had days when the regular powerbait ones work pretty well. I’ve never had great success with gulp.

    Just my two cents.

It works OK in the summertime when the fish are more willing to bite.

Stick to the live bait in the winter for better results.

I have had times that it has outfished real waxies. Sure beats re-baiting constantly with numb fingers! I have a jar in my pocket all of the time, and am convinced that it does work!

If the fish are hitting good they work, if they are mouthing the bait a little and not taking it right away, real live works better in my opinion.

I got on a bite last winter in which a lime green Rat Finkee tipped with two Gulp Maggots was the best combination to put fish on the ice for me.
I carry a jar with me every trip.

I really like the Power Bait. Everyone should have some of These along in their rod bag. These things work really well

Right on! Fish’n is a lot like life. The more choices you set yourself up to choose from the better off you are!

Do you feel the natural color works best or the pinks and the chartreuses?

The only color I have had a lot of luck with is the natural one in the link.

So I have this friend.. who keeps spilling the jars of this stuff (all over my..I mean HIS ..bibs and fish house). Is there any place to get just the gulp “juice” to replenish my..um..his jars? That stuff stinks, too! But in a good way!! Kinda?
