Fireline Crystal with light jigs/lures

Have had good results with the 6lb crystal on a rod I use mostly for walleye and am considering using some of the 2 or 3lb on my UL. I have previously just used mono. I am wondering if the Crystal will not be heavy enough and my little Ratsos and Shrimpos, etc. will not sink. My other option would be Fluoro for the light stuff, what fluoro are you guys using for the light ice set ups? Or, should I just stick with mono? Looking for some thoughts and sorry if this has been covered already, I could not find a previous post though.

I switched my panfish setups this year to seagur flourocarbon line. 2lb. It has very low memory to almost no memory at all. It is also a very strong line. I have only broke once and that was on a bigger largemouth. I’m very happy and the line is invisible beneath the water surface.

Does Seagur have an “ice” line, or did you just use their open water stuff? I was always hesitant to use fluoro in the winter because of the memory issues, but from what I have read, those issues are no more. Thanks for the reply!

Maybe you could try the smallest fireline and then tie on a flouro leader. A blood knot works well in this situation. With the flouro leader you will have great strength and invisibility. When I used the fireline I only used fairly heavy jigs. If I had to down size the lure i would use 100% flouro. With flouro you will also find it sinks alot faster than traditional mono. good luck, dan

I don’t think you would be happy using superline for panfish. As stated above, I would look at using a Fluorocarbon in 2lb. Fireline works great for certain applications on the ice but I wouldn’t recommend it for panfish in low pound tests.

I have 4lb fireline on a few of my rods, panfish and walleye. Especially for the panfish set up I tie a small barrel swivel to it and then use a 18-24″ flouro leader tied to the jig/lure

I use 2 lb. fireline for bluegills and perch with small jigs. I think it works much better then mono line. Plus you can hook the fish with fireline a lot better.

I put the Fl Crystal on a rod last week, and it’s promptly coming off the reel tonight. I was using it with a shrimpo, my bait just didn’t get down to the strike zone fast enough for me. I’m sure if you are in a shack, and blocking all the wind it may be fine, but I’m not always doing that. when I would pull my shrimpo up and get the fish to chase it would take a while to get it back down in the strike zone if they didn’t hit it.

    thread link

Not sure how to post a link to another thread, but hopefully this works. There were quite a few different lines and reviews talked about in this one.

I think you’d be happier w/ a flouro line. P-line has worked great for me.

This year I picked up a Jason Mitchell Elite Series 24″ panfish rod and I run the 1 lb fireline crystal on it. I love the rod and the line is really sweet. I feel every bite and the lack of line stretch is perfect. Give the fireline a shot.

Seagur has this line specifically for ice fishing. I ended up ordering it from cabela’s. Just type in Seagur ice line on the website and it will bring it up for you. Hope this helps.

i use fireline for my deadstick… just a note tho… if you use the clip on yellow foam bobbers for deadsticking, you need at least 4lb fireline to keep it inside the clip. a buddy tried it on the 2lb stuff and the bobber would fall off.

Ive tried the fire line and do not like its cold weather performance.
I do recommend 2# P-Line Flouro Ice. spendy but worth it.
