Yet ANOTHER Camera Question………….

I have an older Scout I picked up from Scheels. I just read the post on using them in the dark, but I was wondering if I can use the new explorer with my Scout?? It has to be better in low light situations than the Scout lens. Thanks

I’m not familiar with the “new explorer”…but unless it has “darkwater technology” your spending good money after bad….if your looking for night or deep water viewing.

Marcum has the VS380, VS820 and of course the color VS825c.

I would strongly suggest one of those models over any other camera..including other Marcums…IF your looking for low light operation.

I hope that helps with your question…

i owned a scout 2. i ended up returning it for the marcum 380, and boy am i glad i did. the scout lite system sucks because it brightens up everything around the lens and all you see is the particlulates bouncing around down there.

im not a fan of using a camera at night tho. how would you like trying to eat/hunt while something you couldlnt explain shined a bright lite at you and your meal/prey?
pannies will come and check out your presentation, but in order to hook em, you have to lower your bait under the lite. ive never seen a walleye with my lite on, unless i ambushed em!

Any camera that has the lighting system surrounding the lens of the camera will not work at night. Basically those lights just illuminate particles in the water right in front of the lens and you end up with the “brites in a blizzard” effect.

The only lighting sysytem that works that I have found is one that works like low beams on a car. You send out a concentrated beam of light below or above the area you are trying to view. As Brian mentioned above, the new MarCum cameras all work this way.

I think you were refering to the new flood light that attaches to the bottom fin or the aqua view camers. I do bieleve that will work for you as long as there is a hole drilled in the bottom fin on your camera.

I’m not sure about the Aqua View…but there aren’t any “plugs” on the Marcum.

    It’s hard wired.

Well, not exactly. If I understand the question right. I doubt the “plugs” are interchangeable but the MarCum 820 series camera does have a “plug” to attach the camera to the monitor.

I added a photo of the back of a 825c. On the left you have the power lead going into the back of the monitor. On the right you have the camera lead going into the monitor. The second photo shows the bottom of the camera lead “plug.” The third shows it from with a side view. I would describe it as a “3/4 round – 5 pin plug.” Will it fit in another company’s monitor? Your guess is as good as mine on that one.

No, not the floodlight, the Explorer is a new model Aqua Vu released this season. Has 2 LEDs on the sides of the camera.

I went to Aqua View’s web site and didn’t see it.

Check out the Manta camera housing at Marcumtech.com and compair that the the Explorer with the lights on the side as you’ve described…sounds like it might work.

Aqua View has a number of night videos on there website. Notice the “snow flake” effect…then compare those night videos to my dark water video. BIG difference.

I’m checking into this New Explorer…and will be back with comment.

If you have the In Fisherman Ice Guide, it is on the 4th page.

Your correct they replaced their scout models with the explorer models. I would think you could buy a new camera and cable from Aqua-vu and attach it. Give them a call.

Remember though on the Scout the lights are invisible, like a trail camera flash. I asked the guy when I bought mine why the LEDs didn’t come on, and he showed me in the reflection of the monitor that they were, you just can’t see them. Don’t ask me how something like that works, but they do

Or try looking at them with a digital camera. Still though…the infrareds are not as good as the Marcum lights. And still not as good as the red/green leds.

I’m not sure what it is about a camera hanging in the water…but even in the daytime, most if not all walleye guides will say not to put a camera down if your fishing for walleyes…with or without lights.

The only exception to that rule that I’ve heard of is by using the Reel Weeds camera cable.
