I dont ice fish as much as I open water fish but do understand how the wind effects open fishing.

I would like to know how the wind effects ice fishing or if it really does. (below the ice)

I usually didnt icefish on windy days ,up to just a few weeks ago I icefished out in the open, but now have a shack to hide in and keep warm.

Just trying to learn something, Jeff

For me ice fishing in the open with wind is negative for two reasons. It hinders your reading of the line if fishing without bobbers and two it increases the wind chill factor. It is as simple as that.

I agree…wind has more of a negative affect on the body than anything..I was out last week in a bit of a breeze.. the only way I could see the strikes was to rest the tip of my rod on my flashers handle. By the time I decided to pack it in…I was cooled to the bone…
