Flasher Question

I was using my Vexilar LS-8 over the weekend. There were distinctive red lines just off the bottom lake. I figured these were fish. When we dropped the fish camera to see what the fish looked like all we saw were weeds.

Are lake weeds that dense that the flasher would show them as fish?

    Thanks,
    Mike

I’m new to the flasher world, will be good to see so I know for future reference. Sorry I can’t help.

Your gain might of been set a little high. On mine weeds usually show up as yellows and greens.

Yes. Weeds can look like fish on a flasher. Dont know of a flasher that does not do this but there are some with extra features like narrow cone angles and fine line resolution that can help with fishing in weeds.

Your gain was set to high if weeds were showing up as Red. You really have to tweak you gain just right to fish in weeds. If you have a dual beam ducer it is much easier. Since you do not, turn the gain down until you can just see your jig. That will help reduce the weed clutter.

yes, I’ve had this happen a few times in water around 7′ or less. If you can, try the narrow beam.

I’ve had similiar issues when fishing shallow water..weeds were a thick red band, as was my lure and fish. No amount of gain adjustment, or switching between ducers solved it.

Picked up a S-video cable…problem solved. The s video will reduce the output power and gives more of a “low” range on the gain dial especially in shallow water.

Good to know, I’ll be picking one up tonight. With any luck our Ice will be back so I can try it out.

Yes,you need a S cable. Cuts your power in half. If you have an FL 12,18 OR 20 they come with a low power setting just for that kind of a situation.
